And people wonder why impact bullet pullers are made of plastic...Last edited by SkyHawk; 08-12-2017, 10:04 AM.Comment

Not the first time a reloader has blown his hammer head off. the last time the reloader blamed the shell holder, he was not using the 3 piece collet. There was no way he could get a Lee or RCBS shell holder over the primer meaning centering the case was not the problem but if it was a problem because the case was too small in diameter to center he could have use rubber O rings.he scariest part is I have no idea why this happened will be looking at different bullet pullers for sure
Reloaders learned noting about the scare, he was pulling bullets in the driveway with his family watching when it happened. I suggest reloaders had bad habits that were difficult to change. I suggested reloaders avoid pulling bullets with am impact puller if the case had a high primer. Anyhow the response is a sticky on another forum/
I will have to allow you to figure what went wrong, I will not pull a bullet with a high primer. I use shell holders, I also have two bullet pullers that are not impact pullers and I do not get into mortal combat with reloading. At the risk of blowing the hammer head off of my puller no matter the cost of the case.

And I said I can not move the shoulder back with a die that case body support and I said I find it impossible to bump the shoulder; and reloaders have no clue what that means. And then I said I could move the shoulder back but in doing so I rendered the case scrap. I guess I should add the part about the seating die not having case body support.Originally Posted by TexasJackKin View Post

I know, I know, reloading 101, like said years ago.....

I must admit I have no clue...of what point you are trying to make. And I said I can not move the shoulder back with a die that case body support and I said I find it impossible to bump the shoulder; and reloaders have no clue what that means. Thats scary and glad youre OK. Im not convinced keeping old bullet/powder in the well of the hammer would cause this but it doesnt help. Try to track down the brass and see if the primer went off some how.Last edited by Trriemferent; 08-12-2017, 1:49 PM.Comment

I did not expect anyone to understand, one member claimed he upset the case mouth of the case when seating a bullet. It is a newbie thing. The reloader does not adjust the seating die to avoid crimping and then they adjust the die to seat the bullet, problem we do not have a reloader that can jeep up with all that information.
Lyman covered the problem in a reloading manual they printed in the mid 50, they suggested crimping while seating is a bad habit. Typing slower; the seating die does not have case body support, I understand you have no clue what that means but when I crimp while seating there is a chance the case neck is will be shoved down when the crimp grabs the bullet. And now typing slower; I have said many times I can not move the shoulder back while sizing and I can not bump the shoulder back with a die that has case body support. I said a reloader can render a case scrap when moving the shoulder with out case body support (one more time), the seating die does not have case body support.

'ol shooter, you are not aware of it but reloaders claim they can move the shoulder on a case back when sizing and they claim they can bump the shoulder back with a die that has full body support. Some reloaders get head aches when trying to keep up and others just go to sleep when they try to concentrate;
I find it impossible to move the shoulder back when sizing and then there is that period of time between pulling the trigger and the bullet leaving the barrel[ reloaders do not have a clue, they believe the firing pin drives the case forward until the case contacts the shoulder of the chamber.
And then there are all of the reloaders that claim they have been reloading forever, they have no clue, they claim they invented the 'bump' like "I bump my shoulder etc.
".

Lyman covered that problem before the Internet, they said crimping could be a bad habit and then there was Dillon, they said it was a bad habit to crimp and seat at the same time. (Back to Lyman) They claimed crimping could reduce bullet hold meaning after crimping the bullet could be loose. You should be able to understand reloaders never learned what bullet hold was because most reloaders are Internet reloaders, Internet reloaders use neck tension with no way to measure it, I have tension gages, all of my tension gages measure in pounds, I can measure bullet hold in pounds but I have no way to measure neck tension.Yes, some time ago when I first started loading 9MM, I had a loose bullet issue, as I increased the crimp, it got worse. Back to too many words: The seating die does not have case body support, seating a bullet should be almost effortless but if the effort increases count on the case failing to hold the bullet.

I have the kenotic puller, I do not use the 3 piece collet with the O rings, I use shell holders. The other reloader that blew the head off of his hammer blamed the shell holder. He claimed the case/primer got under the edge of the shell holder etc. etc. and I said it was impossible for the shell holder to hit the primer. Most of the reloaders on that forum would not back away from the key board to test/check.
Anyhow, the reloaders wasted his time talking about the day he blew up his hammer and now we have another accident, pulling bullets can be a bad habit.
I have 4 bullet pullers, I started out with the Hornady Cam Lock, they had nothing but good stuff to say about it. In a short period of time I spent more time waiting for parts to repair than I did using it. About the 4th time it failed I called Hornady, they informed me I made too many mistakes. It was only a short 600 mile trip so I went to visit them.
I reminded them I was pulling down ammo for the bullets and powder, I reminded them how many parts they sent and nothing got better. It was about that time they told me one of their vendors was doing a bad job of heat treating. I asked them if they wanted me to go by and visit the vendor, after all I was already there, and then they said "NO!". I wanted to know why, it was about that time they informed me they changed vendors.
I then moved to the RCBS collet puller for bottle neck cases.

Maybe static ?
Over the years , I have had quite a few that I could not pull .
I finally figured out to give to cops - the bomb squad can practice with them .
I don't really even try anymore . It is not worth my time for another case . I have 3 kinetic pullers and when showing people how to use - it is with a seated bullet - no powder or primer .life member - CRPA and NRA
All ways listen - after you can say I new thatComment

Disagree. The brass will not spring back more than a thousandth or two after crimping. More crimp means just that; it won't end up looser than a light crimp. If your bullets are pushing in, you are probably over crimping them when you seat the bullet. Just remove the bell on the case mouth and that's all the crimping you need. If you squeeze the case, the brass will spring back and the bullet won't, equaling loose bullet.Comment
