went to the range today shot 45acp thru a kriss vector the gun was not feeding well some of the rounds got compressed to what I thought might be an overpressure issue so came home to use the bullet puller on 5 rounds of compressed ammo. I did 2 rounds ok left the two bullets in the tube of the hammer the third round exploded in the hammer sending plastic all over luckily for me only a cut on my finger have not found the shellplate yet but suspect it is in the attic I was very lucky the scariest part is I have no idea why this happened will be looking at different bullet pullers for sure

^^^ yup. Dump the contents each time. I'm not 100% convinced that this was the cause of your event, but it certainly sets some bells off. That aside, all that extra mass of multiple bullets bouncing around in the hammer head is bound to destroy the unit sooner or later.
I'm wondering if the bullet(s) in the hammer chamber may have blasted the "working round" backwards, breaking it out of the shoulder that supports the shell holder, and somehow detonated its primer. Or, maybe the extra bullets with all their own inertia, pushed the working bullet back up into its case, compacting the powder back up through the flash hole to the point where a subsequent blow finally created enough force to squeeze the primer anvil against the cap?
At any rate, don't do it that way again. But then, you knew that ;-). Glad you didn't get hurt.Last edited by wbunning; 08-11-2017, 5:59 PM.Comment

As mentioned, I always empty the impact puller for each round I am pulling.
I guess you know now.

If your bullets are pushing in, you are probably over crimping them when you seat the bullet. Just remove the bell on the case mouth and that's all the crimping you need. If you squeeze the case, the brass will spring back and the bullet won't, equaling loose bullet.sigpic

Yes, some time ago when I first started loading 9MM, I had a loose bullet issue, as I increased the crimp, it got worse. Discovered that as I increased the crimp, the case was swelling in the area that should have been holding the bullet. If your bullets are pushing in, you are probably over crimping them when you seat the bullet. Just remove the bell on the case mouth and that's all the crimping you need. If you squeeze the case, the brass will spring back and the bullet won't, equaling loose bullet.
I know, I know, reloading 101, like said years ago.....Mike M.

Yes. There will without a doubt be a few who will read this who have never used a bullet puller, and will learn something. It's tough to admit to a mistake, and tougher to own it. Posting was a good thing for you to do.Comment
