    Is moly coating worth it?

I am about to order 168gr Sierra match king projectiles to reload .308 for my M1 Garand.

Is the extra cost for moly coating worth it?

I used to shot moly coated bullets out of my 9mm 1911...the coating will build up in the barrel and is not easy to remove.

I tryed some years ago and noticed no marked improvement, nor did the rounds shoot any cleaner.
      I don't bother

Is that coating build up a good or bad thing?

It can be a bad thing when you shoot fmj and you now have decreased the diameter of your bore. It increases pressure of the round and depending on how the round is loaded and now much build up there is it can make a dangerous over pressure situation and damage your gun.

Moly is a friction modifier - folks use it to achieve a certain velocity while minimizing pressure. If you have a bolt gun, then that may make sense based on what you want to achieve.

Since you have an M1 (bone stock 30-06 or .308 NM accurized?), I would stick with the bare naked 168 SMKs since those are pretty slick bullets for that platform.

The money is with a tight fit stock and barrel for the M1.

PS - wipe out with the accelerator is good for managing moly build-up.

I shot some bear creek moly once. Yeah that was a mistake. Just made everything dirty. Then I picked up some HBN and THEN I went to PC...
