    H4350

Has anyone ever seen powder like this?

There's a LOT of these little flat pieces(like they were shaved off a stick)in this new jug I just opened...H4350...I've shot 7-8 jugs in the last few years and have never seen(or noticed)these little flat pieces.

Does it smell like cat urine?
When powder goes bad it gets gummy or wet and it turns red and smells awful.
When it gets dried out it turns very bright green and you won't get it to ignite.
In those pictures the kernels look bad but the color doesn't look bad.
Kind of looks like two powders blended together.

Call Hodgdon and show them those photo's. It doesn't look right. I just put a little of my H4350 on some paper. It does not have those small flat things.
Mine is three years old. Could be nothing, but call them.

Lynn it smells just like the other jugs and like the 4831sc as well and looks normal.

Pennstater I plan to do just that I will also give them the lot number.

Well you got me to open a brand new jug up just to check it out.
It doesn't have any of the round discs but it does have a yellow tint to it.
Looks better in person than it does in the pictures.
Lot# 80925135229 is all I can find. When you call they always tell you everything about when and where it was made.
I suspect the round flakes are just near the end of the run as they fill the jugs.

              for anyone that cares...

i talked to a Mike at hodgdon he said that the flat disks build up on/around the blades that cut the strings of powder into the sticks and come off after so much build up...he said it should not effect the burn rate or anything...he also ran the lot# and said that there was no complaints or comments on the lot.

the lot # is 80215165520 made in 2016.

Didn't have a chance to chime in when I saw this thread yesterday but I have seen disks in a powder or two I have used, somewhat recently. Not at home right now but will check which powder it was when I get a moment.

Actually did not find sticks and disks; in my H335 I have very small ball like pieces (how I would imagine it looks) with some very small looking disks. I could have sworn I had similar to what the powder in question here is though I guess not.

H4831 is a long cut stick powder.
H4831SC is a short cut stick powder.

Yeah, I remember them making 4831 and 4831SC

but 4350 is SC by default. Cool.
