    No reloads for SD/HD...

I recently spoke with a guy that knows some people that had a shootout during an attempted robbery.

One of the 1st questions was something to the effect of "Were you using/shooting reloads?"

Apparently it's a thing, and is a question asked after an unfortunate "event".

If you have a good lawyer, this will be a non issue...

But just for the sake of it, why not just shoot factory?

I am with you regarding factory HD/SD rounds, for expansion mainly, and to prevent over-penetration.

I thought I'd mention the conversation I had recently, even if most SD/HD rounds are MUCH hotter than anything I would reload (to enable max-expansion).

        No reloads for SD/HD...

I recently spoke with a guy who knows somebody who once read on the internet about a guy who claims to overheard a guy talking to his buddy about a conversation he had with a cop and the cop said that he'd heard a lawyer discussing the same topic. But the cop wasn't sure because it was at a bar and the lawyer was getting a divorce and said something about being reloaded after last night.

Turns out there was a citizen self defense shooting the cop had to dispatch to that very same evening and yeah, the guy was using reloads.

        Coincidence? I think not.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

With prop 63 anybody will have a perfectly good reason to reload. Not that you really need one.

            This has come up before.
As for me. I think its alot easier and legally to explain i bought HD/SD ammo for home protection. I shoot 2 mags to make sure its reliable to shoot thru my pistol. And place a couple of boxes next to the pistol.
A case of 200 rds should last a long time.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.

The ONE example for which Ayoob says to use factory, the guy actually got off from killing his GF due to using reloads. They couldn't proof the lack of powder burns, equated to distance.

There can be reasons for shooting factory, but this isn't one.

Same/very similar projectiles and performance can be readily had reloading.

So Mr 86. I think you might have missed an opportunity there to gather more intel. You should have acted dumbfounded and then asked "Why is that?" And then maybe ask if it mattered much or not. Maybe next time. But hey, do not go back to that same guy and start the same conversation again. Let THEM bring it up.

If I was ever ask if I had used factory or reloads my answer would be "I don't recall" I used the bullets in the gun.

Where and when did the shooting occur?

Who asked the question about the reloads?

Before the interrogation gets to this point you should have already said, "I will be happy to answer any questions you might have but I need to consult with my attorney before any questioning continues."

I would strongly recommend not giving an answer such as "I don't recall using bullets in the gun."

Divercw has a much better response. The initially responding LEOs will have an urgent need to know some information (like the number or rounds fired and their direction, if anyone was hit, and if there are any outstanding suspects). These questions fall under the "public safety" exception to Miranda (please refer to New York v Quarles). There is no corresponding urgency to questions about reloads or the "why did you fire?" A polite request to confer with counsel before responding is reasonable.

On the other hand, once you make a statement, it's cast in stone, and it's cast in stone for all purposes. The words "I can't recall if I used bullets in the gun" could easily be used to show that you were quite ignorant about the condition of your weapon. Guess where that could go.

If you hit an intruder with an off the shelf baseball bat or one you spun on your lathe does it matter?

I heard the same story but it was at a poker game between gun store employees and meter maids.
