I came across some of my farther in laws old ammo in the garage that looks like it spent some time in the water and is showing signs of corrosion. I'm not going to reload these calibers ( 44 mag, 38 spl , and 357 Sig) So I'm not going to break them down, so what should I do with them?

Corroded Ammo

Some of the loose (.44?) rounds look off, but the .357 Sig and .38 special look good, just mildly oxidized over time.
Does not have to be shiny metal, but the projectile should not be "fatter" than the bore by the corrosion particles or else s/b wiped off with gloves and a wet scotchbrite pad.Originally posted by Kestryll:

I would shoot them.... if you don't want to and you are in La, I'll shoot them and give you the brass afterRule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

To be honest , I would be more interested in the guns for the ammo .
I have shot worst . Going from pigs to earlydeer , late deer and back to pigs .
I just wiped them down - I did not want extra in chambers .
After shooting I would give guns a good cleaning . I would probably on shoot at range, not for back up [ like for pigs .]life member - CRPA and NRA

Heres some of the stuff Ive come across over the years that will blow your mind.
Bear in mind I didnt do any of this. This stuff came to me in this condition.
This folks is one of the many reasons why you should be extremely careful about shooting other peoples reloads. Many years ago I made a trade with someone, some crap I didnt need for some ammo that his friend reloaded for him, but he had gotten out of shooting.
Took them out, shot some, came home, was sorting ammo and found the cracked one, spooked me enough to look through the rest of the batch and then I found the one there where part of the bullet is reloaded on the outside of the case. Needless to say I tore down the ammo and re powdered before shooting the rest. Ive been thinking about having these two encased in clear silicone.
Friends WW2 vet Grandfather passes away and left them his collection which included several grenades, an early 40's 1911, an M1Carbine. These were among the basement ammo. These looked pretty old and heavily corroded so we deconstructed them.
I dont remember where these came from...I remember the batch shot fine but these few were ugly so I set them aside for cleaning and never got to it.

Yeah, I don't eat bacon with a fork and I just wipe my face off on my shirt anyways so that would never be an issue.
Like I said I don't have any firearms in those calibers. The OTHER reasons that I was asking was because I was looking for an opinion on the condition of the ammo. Whether I should dispose of it or not. Since it seems like it is fine then I was going to find someone on here to give it to since I have no need for it. Just didn't want to pass it off if it were unsafe.
Thank you guys for all the responses.sigpicComment

We are all big boys here. Some of us, even big girls.
How thoughtful of you. So then go give CA the finger and buy guns in the calibers you do not have...7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
