    "Fluffy"=Dirty, non-Fluffy=Cleaner?

What would be nice is a chart showing how dirty a powder is, vs how "fluffy" it is, vs burn rate to see the results.

I have Silhouette, 700x, 800x, and Universal... I have read that Universal is some of the cleanest burning, but I have yet to try it out, as I have to burn through known-good loads, and it's pre-worked up powder/loads 1st.

I do recall Unique was so fluffy that it was DIRTY.

    Question is:
The more "fluffy"-the dirtier (and cheaper?),
the less "fluffy"-the cleaner (and more expensive)?

(I know the less fluffy, the more chance for double+ charges, etc. which is why I generally like "fluffy" powders.)

    Please advise.

For pistol I like CFE Pistol, Titegroup, and E3. Almost all my loads now are with E3, as it shoots very very clean and soft. My 9mm 124gr competition load is:

    124Gr Precision Delta HP
    4.2gr E3
Federal GMM SPP or Wolf SPP
    Mixed brass.

Very clean. It is also very reasonably priced. It is a shotgun powder with no official pistol loads so all load development it up to the shooter. I find it to be very comparable to Titegroup, just cleaner.

While I have seen " fluffy " before, I never knew what that meant .

Power Pistol is not fluffy and it burns dirty if you do not use enough.

I think your observation is incorrect.

The most expensive powders are the VV types because they charge full pound price while shorting you about 1/4 pound...

I would not look at powders like that.

I have a tub of x700 which I really like but it is in my experience a bit dirty. I mean specks of crap all over the arm when your done. My favorite powder be is the Universal Clays and tight group.. Fairly clean.

700x meters so poorly, even if it was spotless I don't feel comfortable using it. The charge variance is severe.

I never had an issue except for with set up, takes longer to dial in. It goes a long way. I think I use 3.7 to 4 grains per 9mm. It's far from my favorite but im stuck shooting it. I have 8 LBS...

I also use Alliant e3 in my 38spl and 45acp. It is the cleanest powder I have seen. It is very fluffy. It is my go to powder for my trap 12ga loads.

                  I have
                  AA2200
                  H335
                  CFE223
                  VARGET

All of them meter easily and none are dirty or fluffy.
Man, I had a hard time writing, "fluffy".

Lighter loads tend to be a little dirtier, not so much as powder type. Higher pressure seems to clean most powders up a bit.

                      I still don't know what " fluffy " means .
I really try to stay with ball type powders .
I have found a magnum primer in the 45 ACP seems to burn cleaner . Slower powders have more recoil than fast burning ones .

Trailboss is as fluffy as it gets and it burns really clean.
