Consider this: none of the big box stores will sell ammo in CA. The only one that has said yes that I'm aware of is Turners and their prices aren't that great. Add to that the extra handling and paperwork that the FFL need to deal with plus the licensing and record keeping. I won't be surprised to see prices that are double what it can be had for now.

If you buy some ammo in Vegas, will they be checking to see if you're from CA, or will they not care over there?

I doubt they will care. But the people at the Ag inspection on the CA side might be trained to care. Or be supplemented with agents who care.

No worries, probably have a lifetime supply already, at least a CA lifetime...

Ag inspection station, stopping cars to search for ammo, with no probable cause? Sounds unconstitutional to me. Besides, they can't stop every car.

Prove I didn't bring it into Nevada with me.

You can only bring 50 back, so if you going to Nevada for 50 rounds every trip you might as well by local.

                      Buying ammo in california 2018

BWAHAHAHA!!! You think the people that run CA give a flying squirrel about the Constitution? If they did, they would not be infringing on your 2nd amendment rights to the extent that they do.

It will be interesting if they try it, and someone wants to test it in the Supreme Court.

I hope to see all of the anti-gun laws in CA brought before the Supreme Court in the next 8 years, particularly after Ginsberg finally retires or simply turns to dust from being so old.

Back to the OPs question: Check the prices for a box of ammo at your local small FFL. Now add about 30 to 50% for the extra hassle after 2018 and that's probably going to be the best price you'll have access to in CA after 1/1/18. Legal that is.

What the idiots in Sacramento don't realize is that they will be creating a massive black market for ammo, just like there is in NYC for cigarettes where taxes make a pack cost $13 or so. Basic economics.

It is unconstitutional. But while they're already violating your rights looking for illegal papaya they may as well look for ammo too.

I've never driven to Vegas from CA. They have Ag inspection stations on the I-15? How exactly does that work?

They could even have dogs to train to smell gun powder at the ag station
