    Illegal to pick up Brass

A friend told me it was illegal to pick up brass at a gun range. Is this true?

if you get caught with more than 500 pieces of range brass it gets bumped up from a misdemeanor to a felony

Just talking about it is conspiracy to collect brass.

        OP: Contact a lawyer.

There is no law to my knowledge about picking up brass casings at a range or anywhere for that matter. However, some ranges have rules against it.

Your friend is a moron. Ranges may have policies, but it's not illegal.

No joke. that's why they make this for California, it's like a bullet button in that it complies with the law (if it doesn't hit the ground, it's legal to keep)

The man asked a simple question, why give him crap? As others have said, No law against picking up brass at range. Some ranges frown on it because they pick it up and sell it or the employees count on it to supplement their meager earnings. As far as I am concerned, it was your brass when you went to the range, it is yours if you want it when you leave.

Brass jail is the worst! You never know if you're going to be on the dry media or the wet media crew. Sorting then depriming random cases delivered by brass trucks in the middle of the night. Sent into the prison yard where you have to pick up all of the stainless steel pins with chopsticks. Who wudda thunk???

The only ranges I've shot at in the Bay Area allow you to pick up your own brass but tend to frown on picking up anything else. Same at the one supervised range I shoot at in Nevada.

As far as I know, picking up brass is not illegal and even if it was, cops have more important crimes to attend to.

When the brass police come for you,

                            Sorry, not sorry.
