Bro you need to read more.
The press I use mainly is the Lee Classic Turret with the LNL Powder Dropper. It is all I recco for those starting out wanting to load go fast ammo. It is the fastest cheapest press you will buy before you go to a progressive.
I own four presses currently. A Lyman Spartan, an RCBS JR2, the Lee Classic Turret (flat arrow shaped base) and the Lee Loadmaster for when I need to load a LOT of ammo quickly.7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...Comment

guy, i'm trying to both learn to reload and maintain my sanity with 14 units at my school. im sorry if i reached out for help to put me in the fast lane. im watching/reading any free time i have. i haven't watched a movie/tv in the last 5 weeks due to my obsession of guns/ammo. But i do appreciate the input everyone has shared with me. im not intentionally trolling if thats what you really think im doing.Bro you need to read more.

i'm going to start off with the classic turret to get me rolling as it falls in the intermediate range and not too advanced. if my needs ever change to increase productivity i'll definitely look into the progressive setups. ThanksComment

Good for you. It happens all of the time. New folks come in here and want to learn, that is fine, but there are stickies at the top because we have answered all of these questions at least 12 times prior to yours.
And your opening questions reminded me of the time I FIRST played paintball. All I had was some stupid booked called "The Game of Survival" that I picked up and it was based on the Nelspot paintguns and people playing paintball SOLO with a map and out in the middle of the woods, before there was team based play and games like they have now.
I called up the Warzone located in Corona/Elsinore area off of Indian Truck Trail and asked them if the "Old Paintball in the palm trick" was accepted...
They about laughed my *** off the phone... Little did I know things had changed a lot since that book was written and when I actually got a chance to make a call and play...
So there you have it.7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...

"Capable of loading 400 to 600 rounds per hour" haha dude isn't that like overkill for the average shooter? May i ask why some say you can't get precision quality ammo from a progressive system? Is it because in a single stage press you can manually add the pin point amount of powder to the grain as opposed to a progressive that does it for you and sometimes can be off? is that 0.01 tenth the difference maker that puts the round in either match, precision, plinker?Last edited by RiskyBusiness; 02-22-2017, 1:01 PM.Comment

Just trying to do my part to appease the Calguns Gods.
But seriously to answer, I don't think it is overkill. I load about 100-200 rounds a sitting. And they are not that much more than other presses.

I started with this kit from Midway "RCBS Reloader Special-5 Explorer Plus Single Stage Press Kit" the kit comes with like 95% of what you need.
I use a Hornady LNL AP now but I still use my rcbs kit here and there. I think for firstimers start with single stage kits, then work up.
When I went from single stage to progressive I had some problems I might not have know otherwise that there was an issue if I hadn't started on a single stage. I ALSO use RCBS dies exclusively but to save yourself some time and $ buy Hornady dies. The lock ring is so much easier and better than rcbs rings. Also to save yourself some time buy the Hornady LNL conversation kit for the rcbs kit. This will make changing calibers easy and less of a headache when switching dies.

What was the purpose for the single stage being your first and you said you still use it now n then for what purposes now that you have a LNL?I started with this kit from Midway "RCBS Reloader Special-5 Explorer Plus Single Stage Press Kit" the kit comes with like 95% of what you need.

You need to stop putting so much detail into your questions until you learn more. Your lack of understanding for reloading is shining through. Progressive presses are machines that are designed to pump out ammo. As a result, they are sloppy. When you have a machine that is doing 5+ things at once, you want everything to line up and work as smooth as possible, so you make dies that are a little wider on the mouth, give a little more wiggle room here and there so that things can move around if they are a little off. As a result, you can have variances in length and crimping etc."Capable of loading 400 to 600 rounds per hour" haha dude isn't that like overkill for the average shooter? You can trickle in powder whenever you please by not pulling the handle, measuring your charge and adding or subtracting if needed. Folks do it all the time to set up the press.
On a single stage, it is meant for precision ammo, or rather, slower ammo making, there is only 1 thing going on at a time so it best be tight in tolerances. It is very simple in comparison to the Progressive. The progressive is mostly for those that gotta have 4k rounds made in 20 minutes yesterday. They need to go from point A to point B and they do not care to do any sight seeing. The single stage is for those that take extended vacations and want to learn a few things as well as make the best possible round each and every time. (unless you buy a smart reloader branded press anyways)
The turret is the middle of the road. Nobody makes 9mm on a single stage for very long and enjoys it, that is a go fast caliber and is best made on a progressive because who cares if it is made a little sloppy? A .308 or .270 on the other hand, folks want to look nice and be accurate and they want every round the same as the round before it and after it.
It is not always about volume or speed. It is about the right tool for the job. So you can get a toothbrush and brush your teeth and you can get a toothbrush and clean the floor. OR you can get a mop to clean the floor, but you can not clean your teeth with a mop. Not very well anyways. So it is safe to say that the toothbrush can be used in both of those two scenarios, but the mop can only be used in one but the mop will clean the floor much faster than the toothbrush will, but maybe it will miss a speck or two here and there because it does not do so good at scrubbing...Last edited by stilly; 02-22-2017, 3:48 PM.7 Billion people on the planet.
