HP38/231 or Unique?

I wasn't happy with Unique under 9mm or 45 plated bullets so I switched to HP-38. The Unique does work great under the .44 mag XTP's though.

I understand what the OP said, but many times people ask questions like that out of being naive and all it takes is a decent suggestion to plant a seed that they act upon the next time they see a bottle of it at the gun store.

So you can keep giving advice within the parameters of what they asked or you can encourage new ideas and maybe open their eyes and minds to grow and try new things.

I prefer telling them what they can do and what they might want to look for instead of spoon feeding them answers that does not help them grow very much as a reloader.

Sometimes you can't ask the right question when you don't know the type of answer you really need. OP is probably open to additional suggestions. We all have opinions on the powder OP asked about so additional info is warranted.

LOL, Let me "rephrase" that: There are much better powders for 44mag. Unless you are ONLY loading LOW POWER LOADS, I would use H110 0r W296.

I have used, 231, HP38, unique and bullseye, I prefer 231/HP38 for all my non magnum pistol loads, .45acp, 9mm, 38, 380.

If you are stocking up -
I use H110 for magnum loads [ 357 41 , 44 and 50 AE ]
For regular pistols from the 25 ACP thru 45 ACP - HP38 , HS 6 , but now CFE pistol and plane CFE . All of these are ball type and meter well .
Ball type powders meter better / easier the extruded [ log ] or flake .
Most of us stick to 2 or 3 powders , but the last couple of years , stuff got hard to find and in my case I think I have 6 or 7 different powders [ a couple for rifles ]
I was in same place a while ago and they only had BR 2 primers - I bought a brick and four boxes.
I would suggest HP 38 and HS 6 for normal and H110 for mag loads . Mags take a mag primer .

Should you stock up on blue dress shirts or flannel plaid shirts?
They each have their benefits and negatives. Even every other powder any one mentioned will have pluses and negatives.
The best is to buy a pound of each powder you want to try and work up loads with each. This is both fun and educational. Then, you will have some idea of what works best in each of your guns and you can stock up on what you like. Remember, guns like what they like, no matter what others find.
My findings:
231/HP38 is the most accurate .45 Auto powder I have found. AA2, Red Dot, and Bullseye are close; however, I shot two seasons of Bullseye and IPSC with Unique (200gn L-SWC and 5.0gn of Unique for Bullseye and 6.0gn for IPSC—and those loads were quite accurate). Powder was so dirty that once a year I cleaned my gun (just because I felt like it and not because the gun was losing accuracy or not working 100%).

First I would pass on reloading 380 ACP. I am avid reloader and I had an Astra Constable. I reloaded 500 JHP & FMJ and 500 LRN and after 1000 rounds that Astra was looser than a goose. The rear sight fell off. Small guns are just for answering the odd noise in the middle of the night. Not a range gun.

38 Special and 44 Magnum is extremely different. You really need two powders. Otherwise a kaBoom will be in your future. Don't try to make a powder do something it was not create for.

Hi guys I'm a titegroup user for everything even .44 lead loads. It can even cycle my Desert Eagle when loaded with hornady xtp 240gr .44 10 grains at 1292fps. It's really versatile and tame and very shootable and can achieve the velocities I want. But if I want punch I go to H110. My favorite load is the hornady xtp .44 180 grain with 31.5gr of H110 that pushes roughly 1880fps. Itll scare the **** out of all the others around you if your at indoors range. It leaves a slight concussion to all shooter around you. Not to mention the 4foot fireball. Outdoors it shoots fast and flat and can do 150yard with minimal drop. I shoot 12 in metal plates consistently with my cheap test gun a Taurus 44s4 at 100yards. The sad thing is I got it tuned to my cheap Taurus .44 and my Smith and Wesson 629 4 inch can't do the same shot consistently. The smith has a better trigger and is smoother....go figure?��

THAT has got to set the record for the ONLY mouse fart load ever made that will cycle a Deagle in .44 on the internet.

I wonder what the sound levels in your 180gr load are compared to the 200gr (L) RNFP PC load of 24.0gr for .44 mag.

I have a notion that you can get the sound levels all the same between a 240gr, 180gr and a 200gr load with H-110... I do not have any 180gr pills though. Maybe I should look for a mold and see where that goes.

Unique for me, like it in 9mm, 45acp, 44spl/mag, and going to use it for making light rifle rounds too. 7.5gr/240gr cast in a 44mag for plinking and 10gr/240cast or 225gr Barnes for normal magnum duty.

I use a compressed charge of 300-mp for panty dropping, fireball spitting, flinch inducing, hand smacking, loads of ridiculousness .
