    Reinstalling unused (once removed) primers

    Hello again reloading sub-forum.

So I missed a step (case trimming) with some of my cases and they got primed with my others. When I was checking the case length, I realized my mistake and lubed the cases before using the resizing die again. No issues and the cases turned out fine after trimming. The primers look no different than they did before I put them in the first time. I compared them to new primers. I know small rifle primers are cheap, but in the interest of conservation of resources, do I have anything to worry about if I were to reinstall these primers back in the cases?

    Thanks in advance.

I've popped countless primers out and reinserted them. Have never had a single misfire or hangfire in the 6 years I've been reloading.

Your fine. Go ahead and use the primers.when I do it, I mark the brass with a sharpie. Shoot them end of the day.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Through your sizer / decapping die...

I had ONE primer that I have reused (among hundreds) that allowed some gas to escape and it made a shallow etch mark in my bolt, otherwise no issues.

The same way you pop out fired primers. No different.

Using the decapper, slowly. Eye and ear protection. Pro tip: toss your catch bin of fired primers first; annoying to forget that and then have to go hunting for the unfired one in the mess.

Thanks guys. I ask cuz mostly it is working well but I do have a scrap jar of loaded rounds for when I suspect I might have screwed up. Better safe than sorry.

Loaded bad rounds in a jar ?
                    Buy a bullet puller.
Just use steady pressure to remove the primers. Safety glasses or a face shield. And lean back just in case. You might have a few that require to much pressure. I turn those in at the range.

Thank you! My Google Fu is generally pretty good, but I wasn't sure which search keys would pull up good info.

You can always remove the decapping pin from the die too.

That's exactly what I do with my resize dies.
