    30-30 vs 45-70

Not including the cost per round because I plan on reloading lead bullets

Which one would you guys go with for

    1) fun factor
    2) brush gun
    3) other outdoor uses

    Thinking of either a marlin 1895G or a 336W

    45-70 is always fun.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

What kind of outdoor uses and brush gun activities?

You want to show off to your friends or fun gun as maybe fast action shooting? 45-70 kicks like a mule and you won't be doing any action shooting with it. .30-30 however is very fun.

Brush gun, kind of false. Winchester for the win.

45-70 because you can also buy a revolver and share ammo between them.

Currently have a 45-70. But looking to add a 30-30... just because.

Since you reload, recoil really isn't a factor since you can download to your heart's content.

45-70 is straight wall. You generally will not need to trim the cases. 30-30 being a bottle neck, the cases will tend to grow. So you will eventually have to trim them.

1895G with the shorter barrel will be a tiny bit handier in the brush than a 336W.

So from your list... fun factor is the same. Brush gun... I'd say the 1895G 45-70 will be handier than the 20" 336W. Other outdoor uses... 45-70 can be loaded to a wider power range than the 30-30.

If I only had to have one I'd pick the 45-70.

                    brush gun, outdoor uses?

Whichever one who's gun you wouldn't mind dropping in the mud that one time accidentally. I would be partial to 45/70.

But you can get a 30/30 revolver too

I'd start with the 30-30 but you'll probably end up getting both eventually.

                      I did.

I went 45-70. Big slow bullets are fun. Medium sized slow bullets, not as fun.

Downloaded with 300'ish grain bullets it's not too bad on the shoulder. Even 405's to std pressure specs. Load to Marlin "max" and it barks...but can take out a charging buffalo.

For sheer fun, my 1894C in 357 wins.

.45-70 FTW. More fun, especially when you let other people shoot it.

I reload both, so from a practical stand point, I'd say go with the 30-30...but from pure fun stand point, the 45-70 is pretty awesome.
