First Timer - Buy Once-Fired or Single Brand New?

I'm slowly buying up my components and looking at brass now.

I'm looking for 9mm and 40 S&W brass and came across online stores selling once-fired for about $30-$35/per 1k (0.03 - 0.035)

And the Brand new ones from a single maker are (understandably) a lot more expensive (0.15 - 0.18)

I'm reloading just to plink at the range, does it matter for my use to get the brand new ones?

Just for complete information sake, I'll be loading the following for my first time:

9mm
X-Treme Bullets 124gr Round Nose
Winchester or CCI Small Pistol Primer (haven't purchased yet)
Winchester 231 Powder (haven't purchased yet)

40 S&W
X-Treme Bullets 180gr Round Nose Flat Point
Winchester or CCI Small Pistol Primer (haven't purchased yet)
Winchester 231 or Hodgdon Universal Powder (haven't purchased yet)

Absolutely no reason to buy brand new brass if you are loading a super common caliber like 9 or 40.

For handgun rounds, 1 vs. 10 vs. many, many more makes no difference.

If you want to get it out of your system, buy 25 rounds of new brass. Load them. Then buy 200+ of 1-whatever fired.

The only difference is decapping and tumbling.

Just check the cases

FREE range pick up for me,

so i can spend more on powder and bullets,
you can load 9mm 40 and 45acp with win231 or hp38 and might be harder to find universal

i only buy new brass for not so common caliber

Don't worry even about same headstamp for now, it isn't going to make that much of a difference and your reloads will more than. Likely out shoot you or the mechanical ability of the gun.

I like my headstamps matching. No...it doesn't really matter, but it looks nice.

You'll typically pay a bit more, but 1X with a single headstamp is available at much less than new.

Why don't you just go to a public shooting area and collect your own (if it's permitted?) I get most of my brass that way. I bought new 7.5 Swiss brass because it is almost impossible to find on the ground and the same for .30-30. But for the common stuff like 9mm, .40 S&W and .223, it's everywhere. Just make sure you do a good brass inspection once cleaned and throw away anything that doesn't look good.

I bought used 9mm, 38, 45, 223, and 308. For plinking or range ammo there really isn't any advantage to buying new brass.

The only new brass I've ever bought was for my attempt at making "match" ammo for my Remington 700 in 223. It wasn't worth the money.

Now that I have a collection of brass I scrounge up whatever brass I can at the range. I usually bring home more than I brought with me
