    Freedom Munitions .223 -- Kaboom

I came across these pictures on Snipers Hide and thought it might be worth sharing here as a safety warning. The poster is well known on the forum and I tend to believe him.

He was very lucky to not suffer serious injury based on that picture. It's worth checking other Freedom Munitions ammo too, I received about 150 rounds of extremely high pressure .40 S&W from them a couple years ago (which they were very reluctant to take back).

Link fixed by dwalker, thanks: https://www.nullrefer.com/?http://ww...m?s=541&page=1

While on topic, here are some of the "midget" cartridges I received from Freedom Munitions. The same ones their rep told me I could safely fire. I didn't want to risk it. http://i.imgur.com/csPXg5B.jpg

Thanks, I see now that the language filter was interfering with the link. I took a screenshot and uploaded it to Imgur.

Edit: also added your fixed link to the original post.

I have heard a number of stories about explosions with the Freedom Munitions reman ammo, this is the first I've heard of anyone experiencing a blow up with their new stuff.

But... But... But - it's $0.02 per round cheaper!

I know, I can't believe the idiocy in justifying going with those morons.

That looks like a 40SW round. I had one of their 180gr 40s go kaboom in my face, and when I examined the rest, about 10% of them looked like that.

180gr 40SW rounds are very close to overpressure anyway, can you guess what seating one like that does to it?

It was indeed a .40 S&W round. There's a very good chance my pistol would have exploded. I found about 150 out of 1000 with the same issue, the company's quality control must be terrible. A quick visual inspection should have weeded these out.

I showed a picture to the Freedom Munitions staff and told them that it would have been unsafe to fire. They told me that there was no safety issue, and explained that the deep seating just occurred during transport and that it is a routine issue.

I am very lucky that the gun (Para Ordnance 2011) did not feed that day. It was a cold, windy day and I was having a friend (unfamiliar with guns) help me load magazines for our CCW class. He didn't notice the problem with the cartridge when loading.

Needless to say, I will never ever touch another round of Freedom Munitions. The minor cost saving is not worth the risk to life and limb. I didn't think that other people were having the same issue really, but some quick Googling shows many other explosion stories. Then I saw this picture on SnipersHide and thought it was worth posting here, because Freedom Munitions seems pretty popular in the Deals section.

Full case head separation. No fun.
                Glad he was okay.

Whats amazing to me is the gun guys that buy high priced quality guns,,, and then buy the cheapest reloads possible.. Yes please ,,, I will take the 3500.00 WC 1911 and the 200 rds of range reloads please !!!.. If your not going to reload the highest quality ammo for yourself,, at least buy the highest quality FACTORY ammo that shoots the best out of YOUR prized possession!!.. Ya ya factory ammo is not 100% perfect x infinity,,, but a hell of a lot better than joe bobs minimum wage employee's efforts... A couple bucks a box isnt worth ruining yourself or your precious... Cheers..

OP, here's my pic from over a year ago.

Unfortunately, it looks like they haven't changed much at all...

So when this happens to someone in 2018 here in the Republik, is that firearm DOA?

                              Are these re-loads? or new?

i've never had hot ammo issues with FM, but plenty of weak 9mm (new).

there 45ACP (new) is good too, seems a little weak compared to other brands.

I just bought 2 cases of their 69gr .223 (new) hope it doesn't go kaboom

I never buy re-loads from FM or anywhere else, however, i have shot a few 9mm re-loads, from a friend's batch.
