Reloading class in the I.E.

To KC's point, I had this happen to me a few weeks ago. It was a "factory" Miwall reload, not my reload or my fault but the point is the same. My gun didn't blow up and I was not injured, save for a few flecks of gunpowder on my face. Carefully inspect your brass, triple check your load data and BE CAREFUL. Paying for reloading instruction from an NRA Certified Reloading Instructor is a very smart idea. Starting out on your own with no hands on instruction using YouTube videos, not so much.

It's your limbs and eyes, proceed with caution.

Sorry for the rant but I'm on the outside looking in and I don't like what i see going on here. If I was a Mod I'd delete that recipe list and make it a rule if you post a recommended load it will be taken down, do it twice and get the ban hammer. I will not be responsible for knowingly providing or facilitating unverified reloading data. Reason #1 why when you take my class you either bring your own manual or I supply you with one and we do not veer from it. if you want to test the limits of physics be my guest but not on my property.

I disagree completely. You should not be like that. NOBODY EVER should have been like that.

If someone makes something, it is on them. PERIOD. It is funny how you have no problems carrying your own SD loads in your firearm, but have an issue with sharing load data.

How else are people supposed to get special load data for various calibers and oddball funky looking lead bullet molds?

Let's take that Lee 105gr SWC. Do you know what a PITA it is to find load data for that? Don't look too hard here at CG either because (as I see this is the norm in MANY threads at CG) people chime in and the thread starts off going nicely and then takes a hard left and never goes back to the norm.

I think it is a calguns only thing though because on other sites I do not see that happen as much. But on calguns, it is like wow, on calguns, it is the only forum I have seen where the men frequently act like a bunch of women... And that goes for OT especially.

Now how are people supposed to get load data for that Lee 105gr SWC? We gotta talk, we gotta share, that is why this forum and castboolits are such an awesome place to share that info. Now did I take the first numbers I saw and start making loads? No. I looked around and found several places where people were talking about that mold and I put together several possible load ladders and then I compared those to other weights, bullets, powders, both j-words and lead and in the end, I determined that I would not be blowing off my face with the loads that I had found and I felt good about laddering up a grain or so and now, as a result of doing that, I have about 7+ powders that I can say shoot well with that Lee 105gr-.358-SWC mold and I am very happy to have purchased it. I have not made any .380 with it yet, but those are next. If people had not shared, I might still be looking (I prolly would have just made an edumacated guess and base it off of a 115gr pill...) but I am glad that people did share. I do not meet up with reloaders on a regular basis and we shoot the **** and talk about loads and stuff. Yeah not gonna happen. But I do come here and go to other places online.

If people want to try my recipe for curved ammo and duplex their load then that is on them. I learned in 2002 that just because you read it on the internet does NOT mean it is true. AND, I will take it one step further, the Department of Fish & Game learned it even HARDER than me. Cept they were not laughing about it at the end of the day. But the courts know that and I doubt there is a lot of people getting sued because some idiot over in VA decided to try to make ammo and blew himself up over something he read or thought he read.

Look, the same thing happens to cops. Do you think that just because you drive your car towards a cop they have the right to shoot? Or better yet, if they are alongside your car and you take off and run over their foot, do they have the right to come at you with ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON? Sure they can try, but their OWN IA folks will be asking them why didn't they get their foot out of the way and why did they put themselves in harm's way unnecessarily? I know this because of where I worked.

NOBODY should be afraid to use their own SD loads, we reload because we do. We all do it for the same reasons and for different reasons, and we should not be perpetuating any myths or FUD about making and using our own SD loads.

Matter of fact, I am fairly confident that my mercury filled explosive tipped HP load will hold up in court with NARRY a problem when I shoot someone with it in self defense...

as for your 105 gr Lee SWC well that's easy. It's called experience and an educated calculated guess as you stated. I'm sorry I trust no one. Especially with my life. I guess i'm antisocial and just figure it out on my own and don't bother to try and make it a social club. If you all want to get together and swap recipes like hens in a tea room go for it. That's more women like then people getting bent out of shape or their feelings hurt on the OT board.

As to sharing info.. I see no mention of weapon in most cases. There is no statement of weapon condition, barrel length action type nothing. Just some fruitcake asking "Hey guys new to this reloading thing, can one of you guys recommend a good load for a 150 gr FMJ in a .308 win?" so then someone pops up and say sure. OK so how do you know what the hell this guy is putting it in. Sorry but my response is and always will be BUY A MANUAL and READ the F'n thing. all the answers to your reloading questions are in that book even your 105 gr SWC
