Ive been working on my process when reloading and i was curious what other people are doing. I de prime with universal de priming die then tumble. I do this becuase i dont want dirty brass in my resizing die. Then when i resize the decaping pin clears out any media that may be stuck in primer hole. Are you guys just throwing primed brass into you tumblers and then resizing/depriming all in one step? I know the way i do it adds an extra step, but i feel ill get better results in the end. I must add i also swage primer pockets if needed before throwing brass in the tumbler. Id like to hear what you think

De prime before resizing?
Tags: None -
Tumble in walnut media, deprime / size, trim, swage, then tumble in fine corn cob... it gives a fantastic shine and doesn't get stuck in primer holes.
I just can't see myself wanting to pull the handle an extra 1000 times just to decap before sizing. -
My first step is to tumble it all first. Before anything is done I want clean brass. Then I run it through the resizer/decapper. As the decapping pin pushes out the spent primer, it clears out any media too. From my perspective, the only advantage of a universal deprimer is that they handle the occasional berdan case better. But I have a bunch of spare pins & I've gotten pretty good at sorting out berdan cases so it's not an issue for me.
I'm curious what these better results are that you're saying. But in the end, everyone has slightly different processes for reloading.---------------------

I deprime and decrimp the primer pockets then tumble. Resize and trim then tumble a second time.NRA Lifer

I size and de-prime, trim/process the cases, and then tumble before priming, charging, and seating a bullet.Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

Pistol
Ultrasonic Cleaner -> Walnut polish -> Load on progressive press
Rifle (223/556)
Deprime -> Ultrasonic Cleaner -> Lube and Resize -> Trim/remove crimp (if needed)/uniform primer pockets (if needed) -> Walnut Polish -> Load on progressive press using a depriming die in station 1 to remove any walnut media from the flash hole.
308’s about the same process only I load it on a single stage.

I used to, but it was a PITA so now I just clean brass with the old primers in it put it through the press.==================

Tumble
Resize
Tumble again for lube with rifle brass
Check and remove any stuck media from primer pocket or flash hole
Trim
Chamfer
Uniform/clean primer pockets on some brass.
Swage primer pockets(rifle brass if needed)
Debur Flash holes(I sometimes do this at other stages while watching TV)
Hand prime
Powder and bullet
The above is for rifle brass. If I am doing 5000 for squirrel shooting etc I skip the flash hole step. I watch for bad brass at each step and toss the bad ones.
For 9mmLuger and 45ACP I just tumble then sort small pistol primers with the 45ACP. I also sort out any crushed brass. Then into the Dillon 650 and done.
For other pistol rounds:
Tumble
Deprime and resize
Bell case mouth
Hand prime
Powder and bullets
I batch process all brass (except 45ACP and 9mmLuger) with chamfering, bebur flash holes, checking and removing media in flash holes/primer pockets, Uniforming/cleaning primer pockets and hand priming while watching TV usually. All trimming is done outside. Sorting of range pick up brass is done outside also or in the garageA 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

It really depends on what loads I'm doing.
Usally I do this for my rifle loads...
deprime, tumble, size, trim and clean primer pockets, uniform flash holes, prime, charge and seat a bullet.
Now if I'm doing bulk AR or pistol loads, I'll clean it all first, and size/deprime in one step.Comment

I shoot primarily pistol brass at an indoor range, so gritty cases really aren't an issue and one could size/de-prime the dirty cases without danger of scoring the sizing die or cases, but I don't. I like to have my primer pockets, clean, though, so I de-prime before I wet-tumble. Not really necessary with pistol brass, just a personal thing. I de-prime when I get back from the range on a Lee universal die that lives on the small $30 Lee press that stays ready for that function only. I could save a step by sizing/de-priming before tumbling, but that would also involve setting up a press with the caliber-specific die each time. Not a big deal, either way.Comment
