    Shooting 7.62x51mm in .308 WIN chamber?

    I searched and found an answer that said i can shoot 7.62x51mm ammunition in .308 WIN chambers, is it true? i ask because i ordered .308 ammunition from a site but got 7.62x51mm ammunition, i just want to be sure as i will be shooting this in a brand new gun and do not want to mess it up. thank you in advance

      Yes, you are fine. However, problems can arise when shooting .308 Win through a rifle chambered for 7.62x51. The .308 is a higher pressure cartridge than is 7.62x51.

        My Savage 110FP shoots surplus 7.62 NATO very well. Just ask the prairie dogs in South Dakota who thought they could hide behind their dirt piles. Some battle rifles, like the HK91 and CETME, have such a violent extraction that they've been know to rip a commercial .308 case and leave part of it stuck in the chamber. These battle rifles are designed to work with the heavier military brass. Other than that, have a ball.

            Very nice! What kind of consistency were you getting from your milsurp stuff? I've found it to be inconsistent for me, but it shoots otherwise ok.

              My PTR-91P eats up 7.62 and 308 equally well with no problems.

                    where can i find the chambering stamp on a M1A Scout? Is it under the handguard?
