    Look for empty powder containers

Anyone in the SF bay area have empty powder containers they are throwing away?
I'm pulling ammo apart to sell as individual parts, but I plan to keep the powder to play with at some later point. I would like to put it in a proper powder container just to be safe. The stuff makes me nervous of just being kept in a plastic bottle that can create static or a glass jar that might create shrapnel if something were to happen.

What do you think powder containers are made of? Hint ---It is plastic.

Why do you want to over think or complicate this?

I have a couple if you want to come over to the Modesto area.

Unless you are completely sure and then sure again what powder it is you should not reuse the powder. In short unless you loaded it dump the powder on the lawn or flowers. They will like it and you do not risk your or others lives/body parts.

Those factory powder containers are anti static.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Hit the garbage can at the laundromat. Most laundry products are also antistatic.

They're also designed in a specific way to minimize hazard in case of unintentional ignition.

"When smokeless powder in D.O.T. approved containers is ignited during such tests, container seams split open or lids pop off - to release gases and powder from confinement at low pressure"

FWIW I put my "working qty" from my bigger jugs in coffee creamer bottles with the flip tops..

No thin plastic bottle is going to hold enough pressure to be scawy.

Ok, well, if everyone's doing it...
P.S. I don't plan to reuse, just to play with it.

There is a reason they are in Black containers as well. Keeps light off the good stuff.

Unless you know what it is, you should toss it.

The only good use I could think of using it for is as a substitute for magnesium scrapings to start a fire with a sparking steel.

And be aware that there was a Calgunner who lit some powder in his BBQ to get rid of it ... and he died of the resulting burns.

Forget about stopping power. If you can't hit it, you can't stop it.

fool. teaspoon on your workbench is a fun flash.

I save all my slack powder. I keep it in a clear tupperware and just let it build up. Then I put it in my compost and let it decompose. Or pull it out 1 teaspoon at a time for fun. Or a handful thrown over an already open fire, that's fun too.

If someone lit some in a bbq and died of burns, he was burning way, way too much, like half a pound or more, and alone. A tragedy for anyone and I am sorry to hear it happened. Most of us work in common sense. Like "working up" a load of 1 tsp on the work bench
