    [Snicker snicker snicker...]

You will see why. - But first what method of coating are you using? ASDT? DT? Spray?

I will be anxiously waiting to see your results. The best I've used so far is Ford Light Blue from Eastwood. Pricey compared to Harbor Freight, but the results are amazing.

FortuneCookie just got several colors from Eastwood to try (not copper) so he should have some video in the near future of those. Purple, orange and blue, I think.

That funny, you guys talking about fortunecookie.
We call him Doctor at the range.
If you go back to his first video talking about Powder coating. He shows 5 different caliber rounds from 9mm SWC through .44 mag with gloss black projectiles.
He mentioned a guy gave him the ammo and explained how I told him how to dry tumble.
He's been going crazy powder coating ever sense. Glad to hear he got away from HF stuff like I told him to.
I don't see him often, but know he's been there by all the playing cards he uses for targets.

The sad part of PC for lead is that it is a foreign application for a metal that is NOT to be PCed. There is no real world application for projectiles to be PC to anyone but reloaders. AND an even SMALLER number of fishermen.

With that said, the base properties of the lead substrate are not like steel, iron or other ferrous metallics. I became discouraged after spending about $180 on Copper PC of various brands to get things to work, mixing them as the end result. NOTHING looked like a FMJ bullet. The only tip that I had was that the Eastwood Hotdip Copper was GTG, but only when sprayed AND it was ideal to apply a primer base first to get the substrate properties in order for proper shine and depth.

You can not simply ask the powder people for their advice because all of their swatches are on aluminum or steel plates, which RIGHT OFF THE BAT is not a lead base.

You will more often than not end up with "copper" that is either brown, with glitter looking particles or pearls, maybe even stardust, or you will get glitter with a hint of copper, but still looks like paint or a coating and NOT like a FMJ fine copper sheen.

It is also hard to go by what you see on the websites and your monitor. In real life, bah, I am SURE that such a metallic exists, but it is hiding in plain sight among the 300+ other flavors of copper.

To which I thought out why I was doing what I was doing. I had dropped over $200 to make a PC pill that looked like copper so that I could fool ONE range and shoot with the rest of my CG peers there. When all I had to do was stop shooting there and go spend my money on other wacky colors and continue testing them out to see what colors performed better with single coats.

I will tell you what though, I DID find that Prismatic Powders Bonded Black Chrome has a downright sweet finish that makes your lead look antique like due to the black/chrome combination. It is as though your rounds look case hardened, but without the colors, You can stare at them and KNOW there is something weird about them, but not quite put your finger on it...

But like I said, I simply chose the WRONG colors and the wrong prices. Most metallic PC will run you about $17+ per color per 1/2 lb or single lb if you pick and choose your own. But have fun with that. Maybe your search will be better than mine, I fell in love with just mixing things up and making new colors.

Hey guys, along the same idea path. You've got me thinking about a YT vid I watched about year or so back re anodizing copper onto lead cast bullets.

Copper coating on the cheap complete with a true copper color.

Here's a link to start down that path

Your not re-anodizing , your plating them .

                  copper sulfate bath .
                  computer power supply .
                  copper grounding stakes .
                  wire.
                  plastic tub.
                  alligator clips to hang them.

Been doing it for years . Come out nice and pretty .

                  Good Luck .

Hope you have some spare time for reading..

Dam, now I'm rereading the thread. I already have the copper sulfide crystals and acid. Was going to try a battery charger but the voltage is a little high.

3 volt leads off a computer power supply work well . Any more voltage and amperage and they come out "burnt looking" (blackened around the edges)

And try to warm the bath solution and keep it warm , helps a good deal . Old crock pot , acid resistance and porcelain non-conductive .
