    Where to get black powder

Does anyone know of anyplace in the Orange Co. or Long Beach area to buy black powder?
I think it may be fun to shoot the original loads in a Martini-Henry 577/450 and a Trapdoor 45/70. Big boom and smoke.
I'll also be going through Vegas and St. George in a few weeks. I called a few shops along the way, and no one there stocks real black powder either.
Is black powder being regulated away?
Are any of the bp replacement powders (Pyrodex, etc) that are loud and smoky?
    Thanks in advance.

Yes. BP is being regulated away. Call Goex and ask where their distributors are.

My "local" retailer is 2 hours away by car, in Paso Robles. That's the closest.

Other than that, you mail order. Separate from any other material.

You mean your normal gunstores do not carry it what? Turners? Sheesh! I thought that they all had BP on the shelves because it has SOMETHING to do with reloading...

Some guys that haven't had a fire inspection in a LOOOOOONG time may still carry it. No real way to with the regs now. Would have to have magazines, fire suppression, etc.

Watch for re-enactments or cowboy shooting events. There will be sellers there for real BP if the event is big enough.

Otherwise, the gun store in Paso Robles right there on the main drag is a good place and the price is reasonable.

Walker 47 closed last June or July.
                OC Reload doesn't carry it.

If they were the last place on earth that had black powder, and the only gun I had was a muzzle loader, I would melt my rifle down and make a hammer out of it for self defense before I gave those idiots any money. Especially the short little weasel that works behind the counter. I HATE that place.

Have seen mixed reviews some love the place some hate it. It is what it is, I have never had a bad experience. There are a bunch of older people there that move to their own time, but I like going into gun shops and spending a few hours there looking around and seeing what is there.

you should see the yelp reviews on my favorite local shop. You'd think the guy is abusive based on the way people talk about him on yelp. coolest shoopkeep ever, and a great shop. Just because "he doesn't do pistols" and couldn't give a rats *** what you think about an AR-15, and doesn't mind being all Trump about it, and the butthurt flows so strongly through yuppie yelpers. It'tt be a dark day on earth when that shopowner leaves us.

I'll bet this shop is similar. Just a guess, but I bet I'm accurate. Muzzleloaders can be grumpy folk.

That's too bad. I would pop in there when I was in the area.
