Caldwell Chronograph Support and Range Experience

Some dumb a55 was cross shooting at Angeles Range and shot my freaking sun shade rods as I was testing my first ever 223 loads.

I took 10 shots, got my data, plus a few extra readings, so I am wondering what was happening? I seem to be picking up somebody elses shots? Weird. Mind you, this is the first time I ever used a chrono, and I didnt expect much from the 50 dollar unit (on sale) I was using. I just edited the saved record to delete the weird readings on my phone, got my average, plugged it into my Ballistic app, and proceeded to shoot at 400 to 600. Spot on!

So while I'm doing this, the guy to my right, next to me, comes over and asks, where are your targets? I say straight ahead. He responds "hehehehe, mine is to your left." I'm like ok. Whatever. I did not correlate his question to my readings.

By the time the next cease fire comes around, he's gone, and I pick up my chrono to put it away. Crap, two of my rods were clipped and one sun shade is missing a huge chunk. The ****er shot through my chrono

Called Battenfeld (Caldwell owners) and asked for part numbers to place an order. The guy on the phone asked me what happened, and then volunteered to send the parts for free as it was an "unfortunate incident".

The next time some guy walks up to you and snickers like that, just hit him. You will be justified later on...

I hate people that mess with my stuff. I will pull out my own rib just to pig stick them in the neck with it if I have to. But when someone taunts or does something like that, detective documentation mode time...

Good on Caldwell for doing that. Go back and see if you see that jackass again, then get his plate, then the fun starts... <== Said some guy on the internets...

So, he was shooting across lanes? Where I shoot you would need to be firing at the side berm nowhere near the targets in order to hit someone's rods.

Are you sure he shot it and that you didn't yourself ? Where I shoot we don't put the chronos out that far, so you would need to be firing at the berm, as I mentioned.

I shot 10 shots using a 1-4 optic set at 1X. I doubt very much I hit my rods diagonally across vs through. The chrono was in front of me. And I was aiming into dirt.
