700x in 40 data search

As I said before, I don't use 700X, but Red Dot is very close and I've run Red Dot down to 2.5g with the Lee 401-175TC. They all shot, but sometimes the last round did not lock the slide back. My low recoil load is 3.0g which makes my M&P 40 feel like an M&P 9. For your Glock and 700X, you should start at the start load of 4.2g 700X and work up to 4.7g. Look for leading with your cast bullets or just use plated and you are GTG. Also check your brass for any bulges (allegedly not always caused by unsupported chambers). If you are not experiencing any problems, 980 fps with a 180g bullet is a nice firm 40 S&W load which should be fun for the rest of that barrel.

When I was looking to work up loads for my pistols with 700x, I called and talked with one of their techs. They gave me some good info, and saved me a lot of development time.

I have been using 700x for mid-range loads for a long time - 38spl, 9mm, 44Mag, and 45acp. I see no reason why it wouldn't work for .40s&w as well, but a phone call would be my recommendation.

Not looking for bunnyfart loads, or malfunction issues. Just want to load some reliable non-hotrod rounds for the kid. BTW, grandson is 26 yrs old, 6'2" and tips scales at an estimated 240#. Recoil not an issue.

I know this thread is older but I am in same place. About 10# of 700X and a couple thousand 180grain pills. I want to run major power in limited and need 165 power factor, in all your recipes, did you every chrono above 165 without overpressuring? Lots online right now saying 700x is bad choice. Use what I've got, is my way of looking at it.

I did chrono my .45 loads and made major easily. I was using a 200gr SWC though. My velocity was in the 850fps range.

that little drum is what my 700-X came in.
When I was in college(1970's) I lived/worked at the swine unit. We had problem with pigeons. One of my room-mates dad got us a bunch(about 800-1000lbs) of 7.5 shot as well as a keg of 700-X powder. I had the reloader and hulls as well as primers(mostly Alcan 209 and 157--remember those 157 primers??) We(3 of us) would go shoot hundreds of them, collect the hulls back up and loaded them again.

We never did use all the powder before I left college so I had all the stuff when I left. I do not shoot a shotgun much anymore and found it works well in pistol cartridges. I have loaded it in 9mm/45ACP/38sp/357mag/44sp/44mag and like it.

Do they even still make shotgun hulls with #157 primers???

Yes, that is definitely a butt load of 700x. Enjoy.

No kidding. I had a 12lb keg just like that.... took me YEARS to burn it all up, 4grs at a time.

700x is a very versatile powder, and works well in most all common pistol and many shotgun loads. It sits right next to my other "go-to" powder, H4895. Between those two, I can load for most all of my rifle, pistol, and shotgun needs.

Same here. I've won a lot of buckles using 700x in .45acp.
