What is this primer and how do I remove it?

I was depriming my 7.62x39 brass cases when my press hit something hard. I flipped the case over and saw this:





I thought brass cases only have one hole at the bottom, but this one has two...

To deprime those there is a hydraulic system that will remove them. Then you would have to find berdan primers. All in all unless you are set up for the berdan system chuck them.

This works but the rod has to be only 1-2 thousandths smaller than the bullet. Sometimes with rare brass/calibers it's necessary to hassle reloading Berdan primers. Not in this case just trash them unless you have a few thousand then sell the brass for scrap.

I save all my mistake, useless and berdan primer cases in a bucket and sell as scrap. get a few bucks. more of a hassle really.

While I agree in general, and for the OP, there are a few types of Berdan primed cases that are well worth the hassle. Swiss GP11 being one of them. Great, match quality brass, a huge waste to not try to reload them if you are a Swiss rifle owner. For most other calibers, more of a hassle than boxer, just depends on how stubborn you are and how much time you have. Eat Dirt, another Calgunner, reloads a LOT of Berdan ammo and for him, it's almost the same as Boxer. There are several ways and several tools for depriming Berdan cases.

Are manuals no longer covering this or are many now skipping the important step of reading their manuals?
I swear, everyone should look for manuals from the '60s and '70s so they can LEARN about reloading including COL and case expansion and other issues that seem to be missing from current manuals.
Sorry to rant, but reading an old edition of "ABCs of Reloading" or "Handloading for Handgunners" would eliminate these blanks in one's knowledge.
At one time, it seemed that every where except the USA used US-developed Berdan priming and the US used UK-developed Boxer priming.
