Cheap ? And what are you comparing them to ?

There are some 22 rf firearms that cost more than most are willing to pay .

Same goes for 22rf ammo , people here complain about paying more than .10 a round , there are some out there a lot more expensive than per round than "cheap" 9mm .

So , your saying that a 22 rf firearm doesn't deserve the same respect as a larger caliber ? They are the same to clean and operate as large caliber are they not ? They aren't as dangerous ( if not trained properly )

As I said , they make very good trainers , for all purposes from handling , firing , and cleaning .

reloading 22 rf is a pita , but a person has got to do what a person has got to do. My reloaded rf can be , and a lot of times are , better than the cheap 9mm as to reliability and accuracy . Same care is taken for all my reloaded ammo .

This kit has been out since SHOT 2015. It's nothing new. CH4D has had .22lr dies for sale for many, many years. People that say it can't be done are fools and have no idea of the history of the .22 rimfire cartridges. In fact, they have been reloaded for well over 100 years. It was not uncommon for shooting galleries to reload .22 shorts to save money +/- 100 years ago.

One of the reasons that .22lr is harder to shoot in precision matches is that most people don't have the ability to load it and work up a load for each gun. Yes, .22lr is harder to load since, the brass is thinner and softer and, any slight variance is proportionally larger than the same variance in a cartridge with a larger case capacity.

Again, .22lr (and other rimfire rounds) have been reloaded for well over 100 years. Just because, in the US, it has almost become a lost art, it doesn't mean that it can't or hasn't been done.

And re: the cheap part not being true anymore, that's part of why people aren't buying them anymore. Most first guns now aren't .22's, they're 9mm Glocks or AR-15s or Mosins. I teach people to shoot with a .22 to start but once they get the basics down I move them up almost immediately since that's what they want to shoot.

I LIKE .22s, hell, I have a half dozen .22 bolt actions (Winchester 52c, Remington 40x, etc.), and a couple of semi auto rifles, plus handguns, but if you look around at a public range that's just not what you see.

At least people around here . I learned how to and what to use from my Grandfather . I even got his tools to do it . He kept his family fed during the Great Depression doing it .

But people here say it can't be done .

I'd really like to see your Grandfather's 22rf reloading kit. How different/similar was it from this modern version?

If you can get some decent molds and someone is making proper dies, then maybe reloading 22RF can be fun/useful.

15-20 years ago , I was reloading 22's in Mexico . There at that time one cartridge was a dollar .
A brass rod [ came in kit I bought in El Paso ] took out dimple and powder [ I used in 38 and 45 ] .The primer " stuff " was the scraped off top of matches . The problem was the lead . Did not matter much since the pistol was just used to " bark " snakes .
I don't drive there anymore , but a taxi driver goes to Texas once or twice a week . For 20 dollars he will bring back a shoe box of stuff .
When gas was 35 to 90 cents a gallon it was worth it to drive with 4 people . Now it is just as cheap to fly and a lot faster .
Here , I only buy jacketed 22 LR [ to lazy to clean lead build up ] by the bricks .
So yes , I have molds for everything I shoot , but won't be using if Trump gets in .
