    Rock Chucker Primer Catcher??

Have any of you found a way to improve the spent primer catcher on older RCBS Rock Chucker presses? It seems like that goofy little basket thing misses about 10 or 15%, and then the cleaning lady feels the need to tell me about it.

I end up depriming on my LnL, as it has a sure fire system, but that seems like killing flys with nuclear bombs...

I've seen those, I guess that's what I'm asking, do they work, and do they work on older presses.

My Rock Chuck press and primer catcher is over 40 years old and it catches almost all the primers.

Some primers fall from it when I empty it.

My setup is in the garage and I periodically sweep and shop vac the floor. If I miss picking up a few primers, it's not a big deal.

If your setup is in a room in your house, put a small towel on the floor under your press. You won't have to pick any primers out of the carpet or find where they bounced and rolled on a tile floor.

I taped a piece of paper to the tray's rounded side (increasing the height) to make it less likely the primers miss the tray.

Take the primer arm off. A lot fewer will bounce out.
Put a trash basket under the press when removing the catcher.
And get a new cleaning lady.
                Problem solved.

I took the priming arm off & stuck a folded piece of cardboard in the slot in the ram. That prevents any primers from bouncing out.

I'm not sure about the older RCBS presses, but I know on mine (RC Supreme IV) I've cut a McDonalds straw and placed it in the center of the hole in the ram. Now it catches most of the primers.

Inline Fabrication makes a 3D printed primer catch system (http://inlinefabrication.com/collect...hucker-supreme) for my press and I tried it out. I honestly can't recommend it to anyone because it's pretty bad. IF printed them with the cheapest material possible (material with a smoother surface would be better) and primers get caught on the inside. For the most part IF makes good products but on this one they struck out.

I've been using 2 Rock Chuckers since 1969. I've found that if you aggressively eject the primer, it is much more likely to miss the tray. Easing the ram up the last little bit to gently "push" a primer out works much better for me.

I got tired of vacuuming primers off the floor, so I de-cap with a Harvey tool, way faster than de-capping and sizing, and makes sizing a lot faster because you can back off or remove the de-cap pin. Some expert is now going to tell you how a Lee hand held press is even better, blah blah blah, but after thousands done with the Harvey, I'm sold. I watch TV while I work.

I use guides from the RCBS flash hole cutter to index the brass faster, eliminates the vagueness if finding the pin to put it in the flash hole. Same I.D. exactly.
