It would be a big help if we knew where you are located
If you are near me I will help you. I have helped a number of people.

I am in the IE near Redlands. But I am sure there are people like me all over the state.

Call us and we will come.

We need to know the basics. Things as simple as what equipment to buy. What not to buy. Getting started.

For me I'd like to start with loading .40 and 10mm since I shoot them the most. Maybe add 9mm later for the wife.

I don't even know where to begin.

I've helped a number of people in my area, San Jose Bay Area.

There is nothing like starting out reloading and then going to the range and shooting your first rounds. Knowing that someone who has got a good grasp of safe handloading was there with you always makes the first shots easier.

I will tell you this...start with a single stage press. I liked these vids when I started out. It is very easy to follow, etc.

Hmm. That is like asking if there is a SCUBA for DUMMIES book...

Hey, it is your life under water. If you want to drown or get a case of rice crispies then knock yourself out- that is what PADI is for...

The way to learn reloading is simple, buy a book, read it, think about it a bit, then ask questions to those that have been doing it. The books are NOT novels. They can be finished in a couple of hours- Read a chapter a day and you will have the book finished in a few days usually. And they loo thick because most of that is data that you can reference when you want to reload your own and need a place to start...

It is quite simple and most reloaders here and elsewhere are happy to assist.

We were having the IE RELOADING CLINICS for people like you. I would look for the next Reloading Clinic from Calguns peeps here and get in on it. It will give you a quick crash course and hands on before you need to buy a book. Then you can see right there if it is something you want to do when you are done. And when you are done, you will typically have about 50 rds of ammo to shoot that you made...

But, but, but "for mass produced calibers like 9mm and 223, it just isn't worth reloading" and "my time is more valuable"

Seriously though, at the very least, pick up a reloading manual and read it. You're going to need one anyway. There are plenty of YouTube videos that will at least give you an idea.

If you're willing to make the drive, curck out reload oc, Brian could point you in the right direction

Since you are in Redlands, drive up to Angeles Shooting Range. They offer a reloading class. Call them.

If you can't make the time, buy and read this manual - http://materials.nrahq.org/nra-guide...book-only.html

I started reloading a month ago, however prior to purchasing equipment, I read Modern Reloading 2nd ed., watched many youtube videos, read what others on Calguns were doing and asked questions.

I did take a free class from another Calgunner which was very helpful, but if it was not offered, I would have started without one. It depends on you.

I don't think it is that hard to figure out when getting started but I would say

                    1. Safety first
                    2. start slow
                    3. keep reading and absorbing information
                    4. be organized
                    5. reload one caliber for a while
                    6. Be safe

I started with a progressive Lee Load Master. Many people suggest single stage. I can run it as a single stage, in fact my first 200 rounds were done one cartridge at a time. I have about 800 rounds on it now.

To me progressive gives me automation if I want it without having to buy another press later.

I hope it works out well for you.

My 1st effort into reloading was go to library get a book. Read the book . The first pages said "you will go kaboom,The Q is when.... " I Returned the book after I read it . than did not pick up another for 1 year

reloading is like building tiny rocket ships. and testing how well they fly (or dont).

Some of us have seen this coming and are fully prepared. We have a network of NRA certified reloading instructors in place. The equipment and supplies to teach basic and advanced reloading classes. Only the need for those wanting to learn and volunteers to help teach.

                          EDIT

Yes I can be contacted about this.

BigBronco has helped me a lot and he has classes sometimes in reloading. I recommend you PM him and ask for info on classes. They have them all over and it does not matter if you are a seasoned reloader or a first timer, the classes are great. You will find them very helpful. All of the instructors are very knowledgable and friendly.
Also, there is a store in Anaheim called "Reload" and the guy in charge can help you as well as sell you supplies and equipment. It is a little bit of a drive from the IE but well worth it.
