    Golden Bullet Head Case Fail

Golden bullet head case failed last weekend. 4 rounds into the 1st magazine of the day on GSG-1911 (unclean gun with 80 rounds from previous session) and she was peppered from the shot. She had glass on so no injury but part of the face and hand got a bit of it. The round wasn't ejected and it was smoking from mag well and breach. Startled her for the rest of the session. I put another 40 rounds thru without problem though. Could anyone give some explanation of what could have happen?

Looks like thin brass. Firing pin pierced the rim, and the rest is history.

If you looked at the top picture, you will see that the firing pin strike about 40 degree of the failed brass area.

Has it been that bad for you? This is my first failed brass out of about 5k or so round of GB and 5k round of TB.

Munitions manufacturers each run "MILLIONS" of rounds of 22lr per day through fully automated machinery. Bad cases can and do slip through.

Murphy loves guns. Crap can and does happen.

The only case head seperation I have ever experienced in over 60 yrs of shooting. Was Rem Hi_Speed 22LR in 1965. Crap in face down FP and bolt ways channel. Extractor blown off bolt, lifter bent beyond repair. Total repair bill at Universal Arms in Paramount Ca. $10.

Contacted Rem by mail and explained issue. They sent me a "Voucher" for a free brick of 22 lr. Net value, $6 at that time.

Glad no one injured, then and now.

My GBs tend to not shoot until they have a pretty sunflower pattern on the bottom... Damn hippie rounds...

lol, that, I agree. My boy learns to draw sunflower with his rascal firing pin and rechambering these remington rounds.

Had a similar thing happen with S&B 22WMR, definitely an eye opener.

I have bought GB only once and that was enough to turn me off them. Their ammo and QC isn't very good so I stick to other brands.

Had a friend today at the range blow out a ruger 10-22 with the new browning 1435 fps hp.. Total head separation ,, blew his mag out the bottom and broke his extractor off.. It was the 3rd round that blew out in a 100 pack sleeve... Another in his henry last week and one in a bolt action mossberg.. He is not a happy camper as he bought 3 100 pack sleeves and hasn't even shot thru one pack... Olin-winchester ammo is who is making the browning ammo.... Sure hope my new win super-x ammo isn't going to go out this way... Always wear saftey glasses ,,, and I'm adding a shooting glove to my attire.. Cheers... And I have fired about 10k of Rem gb and have never had a case blow out....

I have some 10+ year old Remington Golden ammo, and the spend cases look like they are over pressure.
