    .38 special load data

I'm looking to load up my first 38 special loads using Unqiue and 158 gr (xtreme) FP bullets, but have some questions about the data I have.

Lyman manual has 158 gr HP (starting load 4.7 gr) and 158 gr (linotype) cast bullet data, but nothing for FP. While my Lee book just has "158 gr jacketed, lead, plated". Though they only list unique under the lead bullet (starting load 4.1 max 4.7), so not really sure where to start with this one, should I just go with mid range lead data? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I also plan on seating to the cannelure as well.

    .38 special load data

    These are plated...

I would load these at regular lead bullets, and work up.

I do the same thing for my wadcutters...except load them flush to case.

The 38/357 148 grain wadcutter is engineered for precision bullseye shooting. Its flat profile and full-diameter cut create crisp, easy-to-score holes in targets. Reloaders appreciate its stability at modest velocities, making it the standard for revolver target loads.

Load them as you would lead rounds, and the plating helps with not leading the barrel & forcing cone.

        You have chosen wisely.

I already shot something like that though. I was not too terribly impressed, but it WAS a .38 special on the other hand...

You know who LOVES him some .38 special though? Ken Waters...

I swear out of everything that guy shot and loaded for he LOVED the .38 special.

And the 158gr SWC or even the PRN are not too bad.

You can use jacketed data, but start about 10% lower. But since you ARE shooting plated, it really is better (is it really though?) that you start in the lead data for simplicity's sake.

AND if you ever get a chance to get to the library and have a look at the book PET LOADS by Ken Waters, it is hard to read since all they did was take ALL of his magazine articles and copy them into a volume or two, and then later combined them and sold them as 1 mega volume, (Oh they did not? Cause it sure looked like they did...) I could be wrong there, I just did not get the volume 1 or volume 2 or no volume and no reference to one... And I was not too thrilled about the photocopies of photocopies, but yeah, anyways... I'm sorry. What?

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...

I like the Xtreme brand more then Berry's, they seem to be more accurate and consistent. With the right powder/powder weight and bullet you can get really good accuracy.

Here is my newest test for 38spl wadcutters. 18 shots in 6" circle at 45 feet. Find what works for you. [emoji3]
