21 things I learned my first two weeks of reloading...

Started buying the equipment last month and got everything set up. Heres what I've learned during my first 100 rounds or so.

    1. OCD is almost a welcoming trait to start out with.
    2. Too much free space equals more mess.
    3. No matter what, you'll never have enough space...
    4. That stupid piece of metal you spent $20 on is worth it's weight on gold.
    5. Plug in timers are a great luxury to have for a media tumbler
    6. Realize that said plug in timer has a light sensor that activates after the garage lights go out...
    7. The phrase "Go by feel" is a skill never tough but only mastered when you've tossed out at least 20 pieces of brass learning the curve.
    8. Your going to mangle some brass while getting your dies dialed in and even afterwords when you think there dialed in.
    9. Accepting said fact...
    10. No mater how unmanly it is or "wussy" wearing PPE like gloves while working will be that much more of a help to reduce your chances of lead poising.
    11. Being comfortable and able to preform precise tasks wearing nitrile gloves from years of training and time spent in EMS
    12. Realizing Nitrile gloves are freaking expensive.
    13. Realizing the price is pretty cheap after your blue gloves are black/ gray at the end of the day.
    14. Make sure you have a clock at your bench/ work station because you will lose track of all time and relative space around you.
    15. That old ipod you had laying around for almost a decade makes a great work bench sound system.
    16. That $28 hazmat shipping fee is a *****.
    17. The local range brass is actually more cheaper then Al Gore's interweb
    18. That universal deprimmer pays for it's self when you find your first berdan primer...
    19. Like cooking, 9 times out of 10 prep work is the biggest pain in the ***.
    20. There is nothing more rewarding then looking at a box of ammo you just kicked out for half the cost of store bought ammo/ reloads.
    21. It helps to know someone who knows what there doing.

As soon as I saw you say PPE I figured you were an EMT. LMAO! That or someone who works within public safety. Many folks are still scratching their heads trying to figure out what that means still...

Your nitrile gloves do NOT need to be sterile. Industrial is fine- http://www.harborfreight.com/catalog...sult?q=nitrile

Dunno what you consider expensive though, I use the light 5 mil for everything from preparing my meats to hmm, I DO have them outside in the garage, but I do not use them for - OH if my hands are gonna get nasty dirty sorting shells...

I dunno about killing shells in setting up dies though. Maybe you bought those special "Destroy once; cry once!" dies... They match your Nitrile gloves... But nonetheless, doing it yourself is certainly much more of a learning point than just being told to some folks. Good for you out there in Plumas county... or whereever that is... :\ :D
7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...

Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...

#8--I just set up 3 sets of RCBS dies for a friend on his new press. Not one ruined piece of brass. Same for some I did for myself.
You must be doing things wrong or cannot read and follow directions.
#18---just keep an extra stem assembly around----FREE if using RCBS dies or Hornady
#19---True or just consider it part of the hobby and do some of it while watching TV. Example: 1-Hand priming brass 2-Chamfering brass 3- Swaging primer pockets 4-deburring flash holes
I do my trimming outside and listen to the radio or cd's
#20-WRONG--Nothing better than shooting your own ammo and getting a great group or taking a nice animal
#21-- True and willing to help.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

Loading ammunition tailored for your gun is the best. I have a Kimber of Oregon model 82 LH in .22 Hornet. I tried two brands of factory ammunition and was disappointed by dinner plate sized groups at 100 yards. My hand loads decreased the group size to 5 shot groups that can be covered with a nickel.

Background music too? I find that amusing because music in the operating room is a absolute must... And these are actual humans lol... Nobody killed yet!

Been reloading over 40 years and never used a timer or nitrile gloves.
Put brass in your tumbler just after dinner and it should be ready just after dinner the next day. After that resize it and throw it back in to remove the lube.

You can get nitrile gloves at Costco for cheap.

I think music is fine as long as you're intelligent about selection. If you're bopping around to the beat, probably not so much.

Definitely keep some extra decapping pins on hand but if you do some minimal brass prep they should last a long, long time.

Gloves are from costco/ sams and I just realized there 400 cont for $17... sooooo I shouldn't be complaining. Also been so use to getting them for free.

Not quite, followed the instructions just needed the die needed to be turned a bit and followed up by some noobness.

No issues, got the lee decapper so it was just a matter of re-tightening the Collet.

The go by feel thing was removing military crimps. Didn't remove enough the first couple of cases.

The piece of metal is a .223 head space gauge.
