I've been using Turtle Wax Renew Rx Premium All Metal Polish with walnut from Petco. According to the SDS sheet on the Turtle Wax website it contains no ammonia. So far so good..

Yes, Brasso contains ammonia, and yes, ammonia has deleterious effects on brass. So technically, Brasso should not be used in your tumbling media.

As a practical matter though, I think that the "Brasso is bad" warnings are a bit overstated. Rifle brass just will not last long enough for the small amount of Brasso/ammonia coating on your media to work its evil magic on it. Pistol brass might be a different story - but even there, I've used Brasso since the mid-90's and have fired and reloaded buckets and buckets of 45acp without issue. Sure - I get a split neck every now and then, but by that time the head-stamps on the failed casings are mostly worn away and there are too many extractor marks on the rim to count.

Again - Yes, Brasso contains ammonia, and yes, ammonia has deleterious effects on brass. I just doubt it makes any quantifiable difference, or shortens the service life of reloaded brass in any meaningful way.
Always looking for vintage Winchester and Marlin lever action rifles. Looking to sell? Know of one for sale? Drop me a line!

The Frankford Armoury stuff from Midway. Yeah ammonia will damage brass. Is there enough of it in the amount of Brasso that is added to a tumbler to damage brass? I doubt it.

Well I had picked up a bottle of nu finish to try on my way home this weekend and to say the least I'm impressed. As for brasso I've been using it for probably 12-15 years and never have had a issue, I was just looking to see if there was anything better out there, oh and thank you for all the replies and suggestions.

Let it run for 2,hours. It will look like new. I just keep adding nufinish when it loses the shine. End of the year I change the media.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
