What's the current limit for gun powder storage?

Sorry I have to ask this guy's, but the most recent thing I found was from 2009.

It stated that an individual could only have 20#s of smokeless powder at a time. What if it was 2 individuals in one house?

Also, is the limit still 20#?

For most people without special cabinets and/or permits, it is 20# per residence, AFAIK. Depends on what State I believe, but in Cali it is 20#.

Just remember some cities or even counties may have a lower limit.

The amount of gun powder you are allowed to store in your house is 20 lbs. It can be increased to 50 with a wooden box made out of 1 inch thick plywood. You might even be able to increase your amount if you have a shed away from the house, control areas.

                BUT--

This code is enforced by the fire department. The fire department has NO right of inspection in your house. If they wanted to inspect your house they would have to see a judge and get an inspection warrant.

Having spent the last 17 years in the fire service, I've never heard of a fire department getting an inspection warrant for a single family residence.

I pay it no nevermind, but....I'm told that an 8# jug with 1# of powder in it counts as 8# as far as the code is concerned.

Thanks for the responses guys. I would also like to know how a 1inch thick wooden box would help in anyway shape or form. wouldn't that make it explode instead of "erupt"?

I have always wondered about the wood box too.
I keep mine in a big vented steel locker (think high school locker).
I always figured the metal locker wasn't flammable so that would be better than wood......
