I use a RCBS pro 2000 and a Rockchucker. The tool heads I already had from when I had a piggyback conversion for my rockchucker. That saved a lot of dollars compared to the cost of Dillon coversions.

Use mainly RCBS dies for every day use, but really like Redding dies for my precision load work because of their features.

I use a Lee Loadmaster, it works great for me but definately had some quirks to work out and would not reccomend it to a first timer.

If you're reloading for rifle calibers the progressive doesn't have much advantage over a turret press but they sure make loading pistol cals nice.

For powder measures I use a Lee Pro-autodisk mounted on the press when loading pistol ( works ok) , and a Lee Prefect Powder measure on the bench for rifle (works great, very consistant)

                      Because I load for:

                      223 Rem
                      6.5x55 Swede
                      256 Win Mag
                      7mm-08
                      30-30
                      30-06
                      303 British
                      8mm Mauser
                      8mm Rem Mag
                      358 Win
                      375 H&H Mag
                      45/70
                      416 Rem Mag
                      458 Win Mag

                      9mm
                      10mm
                      45 Auto
                      44 Mag
                      50 AE

                      20ga

Most are loaded on the 550. The LCT gets the weird stuff like the 256 Win Mag and some specific loads that are just easier for the LCT than the 550. Also good for small runs of a dozen or so rather than seeral hundred on the Dillon 550.

Somebody wants Randall to post his "reloading bench"

                        I use two Dillon 650's w/ Dillon Dies for : 9mm, .38, .357. .40, .45 & .223 plinking ammo.

I use a Rockchucker w/ Redding dies for my varmint loads of .223 & .308. I also use the Rockchucker for swaging primer pockets & pulling bullets.
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.

http://www.midwayusa.com/eproductpag...744&t=11082005 and a couple reloading books and when I have the hang of it Ill probably upgrade to the expensive Dillon stuff. I just wanted to buy something cheap to learn on.

My plans when loading is to Manually seat the primer by hand. IE.

                            Tumble Brass
                            DePrime/size etc.
                            Trim Case (If needed)
                            Remove crimp
                            Clean primer pocket
                            Tumble Brass again
Prime with Hand tool (looking at the RCBS Hand priming tool)

After doing that to all the brass... Start loading
                            Powder
                            Bullet
                            Done

is that good am i missing anything? Also what press is good to do those steps? the 550b has a lot of bells and whisles but i dont think i will be needing it anytime soon. I am looking at a Lee loadmaster Press and going to be purchasing the other stuff as well.

To answer your question...A single stage press for batches of 100 or less rounds is usually the best choice. It's a PITA to setup a Dillon for small runs. Also single stage presses are better for the larger rifle cartridges, assuming the press in a good one. I have both a Dillon ( 450 upgraded to a 550 ) and an RCBS Rock Chucker. I use the Dillon mostly for pistol cartridges and the RCBS for most everything else. Also, when loading for matches, I like to weigh each charge and the Dillon powder measure won't allow that. Powder measures just don't tend to be very consistant with extruded powders. They are great for flake and ball type powders, which is more common with pistol loads.

Check out Midway...they have most everything available on the market today and prices are pretty good...especially when they have a discount deal. As for 223, if you are just plinking and not too concerned with BR type accuracy, you might be better off with factory loads. The cost of components are about equal to bulk pack prices for loaded ammo anymore.
