    Reloading Components Re-order Point...

So, at what point do you re-order components you use on a regular basis, especially due to the shortages of some of the components?

In my case the most reloaded cartridge is 45ACP. I have a 4 month supply of powder before having to change powders (if I do go back to Bullseye I am good for 8 months or so though not my preferred powder) and 4.5 month supply of primers, brass and bullets do not matter as much as they are readily available locally and mail order.

Due to hazmat fees I can see buying powder and primers in quantity, and of course in case of powder availability can be an issue and can drive the timeline forward when it becomes available (haven't seen TiteGroup online for a while ).

In a perfect world where components were available I'd re-order when I would be down to a month supply. However due to uncertainty of availability that is not possible.

I order components when I find them cheap. When the S&B primers were on sale for $18/1000 I took advantage. The powder shortages have been so rough, I stocked up the first time I found my powders in stock and bought in bulk. Bullets are the most expensive. I buy them in bulk, and go a little crazy when I find really good deals.

If you buy the really good deals, if you change your mind about something you can almost certainly sell it for what you paid.

Powder - being as hard to find as it is - I order when I find what I want at a decent price. I also buy a min of 5 pounds to offset most of the hazmat cost. Right now I have about 10-ish pounds of powder between the different brands. I'll reorder when I see a good deal or am down to about 3 lbs. Whichever comes first.

Primer cost/availability doesn't seem to fluctuate as much, so I buy when I have about 2k left of a particular type of primer. Again, generally buy in bulk to offset haz cost

I usually reorder prime when I get down to 5k primers or 3k bullets of any given (handgun) caliber. I start looking around when I have less than 4 lbs of any powder.

You have to be ready when good deals roll around. When Midway had CCI 500 for $20/k, I bought 15k

One thing about my buys...I buy components and only load them on a limited basis....I don't load a ton in advance...should I need to sell out or the wife needs to sell out (I'm old) reloads are of no value except for components so I leave the powder in the jar, the primers in the boxes and the brass and bullets in the bins...I load a few hundred of each handgun cartridge ahead and probably 50-100 rifle rounds..I don't shoot any AR type high volume stuff at all.

I but powder in conjunction with others so cut the hazmat..I buy bullets when they are cheap and get primers when they are available and reasonable....I got enough brass to last 4 lifetimes.

I shoot a lot of W231, Unique, Universal and Trail Boss and keep hearing it's not available....it has been within the last 4-5 months but got to find it and if it's in 8# (5# for Trail Boss) kegs we buy it...folks worry about having too much...there is always a market for fresh, clean powder and lots of folks can use part of a keg. I don't buy hardly any powder locally...seems the locals don't get much of the desirable powders at a decent price...if they get it they get really pricey.

I order whenever the price is right, I start getting worried if I dip under a 1year supply of anything I shoot.

Whether I need them or not, I order them when I find that I can get a good amount of items at a cheap price.- Or ANY amount of items at a cheap price. Garage sale with reloading stuff? Sure I will take it. Free hazmat or shipping for ordering $199 or more of primers? Sure I will take it...
