Just heard that the prices of ammo will be going up again after the first of January. I'm not surprised, but wonder what the reason is this time and just how much prices will be rising. Any one know?

Ammo prices up after the 1st?

As usual I guess I have to be specific so as to not awaken the thread trolls:
What is the reason (new legislation, cost of materials, hazardous material fee increase or ?) and how much (a little, a lot, so much per box, etc.). And while on the topic, any news on efforts to restrict/limit/etc. ammo?
Is that clear enough? Useful answers appreciated.Comment

After evaluating the current state of the economy and where we're headed, I predict that the only way people will be able to sell any ammo is by lowering the prices.
People still arn't buying gas (even cutting back on food!). Even now that the price of gas fell drastically. And I'm sure most everyone rates gas and food as being more needed than ammo. After the first of the year, businesses won't survive unless they lower prices. It's something I'm planning right now....Robert...

As for my source, is was the salesperson at Wal-Mart. I know Wal-Mart employees are not the brightest examples of humanity, but when they say a price increase is coming I have to wonder.
So prices must come down??? Have you priced OLL's lately if you can even get one? Supply and demand is most consistent determining factor for pricing. And if Big Brother is doing something to limit or grossly tax our ammo, the price will surely go up.
Therefore my inquiry: Does anyone KNOW of an inpending event that would case a spike in price?Comment

I doubt it

That seems like a good deal to me... I prefer Top Ramen over Cup 'O Noodles any day.
As for price hikes, I too have heard this is coming Jan 1. Natchez has had a notice up on their site for the last few weeks to that effect (5-12%).
I don't know what the reasoning would be, besides a general rush on all things gun related since 11/6/08. I'm unaware of any pending legislation at the Federal or State level on ammo at this time.
I believe the CA law that would have restricted mail order and private person purchases on ammo died (or was at least shelved). I'm sure the powers that be will take another run at it (or similar legislation) this year. Either way, I don't expect a law in CA would have THAT significant an impact on ammo costs across the country.
Good luck getting your answer.

I think its all talk
copper was over $4 bucks mid summer
its down to 1.25 today
lead was up over a dollar a lb at about the same time
now its .37 cents a lb
and energy cost's are down big time as well"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas JeffersonComment

Agreed. Costs are down, but if demand has spiked (I don't know that it has), prices will still go up... as evidenced in the market for lowers.
I hope prices don't go up. And if they do, I wouldn't be surprised to see them come back down by April.
If no talk promoting a gun / ammo ban comes out of the White House following the transition, I expect supply and prices (for guns and ammo) will come back down.
