Might mention something...and I'm sure there will be some that say "don't do it"...this is just what I do..YMMV. I use a hammer type puller....I do not use the little 3 piece collet shell holder with the rubber band...I use the shell holder off my press for the appropriate caliber..it lets the cartridge point down into the body of the hammer type puller and the top screws on and makes things much tighter than with the little rubber band deal and the whole set up is far more positive than the little flimsey collet deal...I've done maybe 50 at a sitting and got along fine...it works better for me...I've heard some folks express fear it could set the round off...never had any issues and have done this for years.
Again YMMV.

I used a shell holder for a while, but after doing some reading, I went back to the supplied collet. Here's one well documented accident with photos and a good explanation as to how it happened when using a shell holder.

So it looks like it can happen under the right circumstances.

Now I'm wondering how I've not had that happen in using my Hornady and RCBS pullers.

I've pulled thousand of 308 over the years on a RCBS 50 BMG single stage where the slop is held in place by my jerry rigged wire used to hold the Shell
holder in place.

Same boat. No holes in it yet. Got the RCBS used in early 70s. Where the RCBS collet fails to shine is with short ogive soft pistol bullets, with a heavy crimp like .357/.41/.44 cast.

That's where the whammer thingy comes into play.

I have pulled bullets with a pair of channel locks when using lead bullets. If you plan on melting them down anyway it doesn't matter right? I put in press. grabbed with channel locks through where the die goes, and then pulled down on casing with the press.

Yep I do the same thing except I use a small pair of vice grips, take the die out raise the round up thru the hole grab with vice grips lower handle easy!
I took down some 7.62 x54R surplus this way loaded cast bullets in place of the steel core.

I put a foam earplug in the bottom of my inertia (hammer) puller to protect the bullet.

That's a good idea.

+1. I can't figure out why anyone would use an inertial puller except for infrequently used calibers.

One option is to just plan on using the hammer type but do 10-20 a day until it's done. I find them easier on the bullet than the collet type.

So I caught a mistake in my powder drop and now I have to pull a bunch of billets apart, the hammer is not going to cut it here. Shadows can I use ? About 200 rds need to be pulled

I broke my hammer. Shattered it in three pieces. I don't remember what brand it was but definitely not RCBS.

That looks pretty cool. If I had to pull more than the occasional bullet I'd get one of those.

I like this but don't know if the cast bullet will be usable afterwards. Barely dents fmj bullets. Noticeably dents plated bullets.

I want one just for the convenience of NOT having to use my hammer puller...
