    Need help pricing ammo

Just as the title says, I need help pricing some ammo. I have seen these kinds of threads be frowned upon before, but im trying to help a friend out and I need the wisdom of the Calguns community.

Im helping a friend, who knows almost nothing about guns, by selling some guns and ammo for her, but im stumped on 2 types of ammo and id like to make sure im not just giving this stuff away if its anything special.
Hungarian 1951 7.62x54r Lead Core Heavy Ball. I see this stuff hasnt been imported for a while but i cant find any of it for sale. Its been stored loose in an ammo can and she doesnt have the spam can it came in. Is this stuff plain Jane or a diamond in the rough??

Stirling high velocity 22lr. I saw an older guns america post saying this ammo is collectible and could bring $25 for each small box. Was that guy smoking crack, or is this stuff really worth a lot? Again, I wasnt able to find any of this for sale.

They arent identical, so if anyone has any insight on the difference between my friends Stirling ammo and this stuff, it would be greatly appreciated.

queue up that sad trombone music...

That box has been listed several times at that crazy high price so I think he's dreaming, but on the bright side, it looks like a small box will go for about $8 before shipping. http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=519610245

              Advice and not an offer

Since anything you get is doing her a favor, don't waste your time and hers trying to get any sort of "collector's premium" and wind up waiting forever to sell the stuff. If you priced the 7.62x54R @ 25 cents a round, it will probably move fast. Could you get more? Yes, but not a whole lot more and the hassles are not worth it.

Could you get more than $0.10/round with the 22LR? Perhaps, but are you willing to haggle over $12 for the 4 boxes of Stirling? Do you thing your friend will say "you only got me $20 for the Stirling and I was expecting $32"? If so, something's not right.

When selling for someone who may be getting rid of a departed one's hobby stuff, they are usually grateful to get the stuff out of their house and the sooner you can close the deal and give them the proceeds, the better they feel.

Rocket has good advice. Sell it and make every one happy. You will still be the hero.

NEVER go by prices that people are asking. Always consider the completed auctions.

You came here and asked for a price check and you were given your answer. Sorry it was not what you wanted to hear. I am sure if you were to take this stuff to antique roadshow they would tell you it was all worth $12,500...

Seriously though, if you are going to whip out a link showing a ridiculous price, then http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=527485391 by your logic I should be able to sell an 8# bottle of HP-38 for nearly $300 because some asshat on gunbroker is selling it and he thinks he can get that much for it.

If you feel that you were given an incorrect price then go and sell it for your "corrected" price and see where that gets you. But let's face it, .22lr is NOT a collectible to the average guy. it is AMMO TO BE SHOT and I know that I sure do not care to give some crazy guy my money because his .22lr may be the best EVER made in the world according to him.

I am one that always frowns on threads like this for this exact reason. The solution is this, It is .22 LR and 7.62x54R. Go dump it on gunbroker and start at $1.00 per box or 100 rds or whatever and see what people will bid on it and bump it up to. Heh. All of this sense of what it SHOULD be worth means nothing if you can not get that for it. But right now it is doing nothing but sitting at someone's house. Thrown out on gunbroker it could do more, like make money for that person in the house...
