Scale Calibration Weights - How Many Are Necessary?

    Hey folks,

I'm just getting the final bits of my reloading setup finalized (Inline Fabrication press mount is on its way here now) so please excuse the noob question.

I inherited most of my setup from my grandfather -- a 40-or-so year old Rock Chucker, RCBS case trimmer, etc. etc., and one of those items is an old Redding scale. See pic below...

Anyways, I was looking at getting a set of the RCBS scale weight checks, and was curious why someone would need the "deluxe" set with more weights...Seems like the "regular" set would probably do the job?

Can someone explain why the extra weights of the "deluxe" set are important?

    Here's the scale:

One measurement will calibrate your scale. Multiple measurements will verify that your scale is accurate.

I use a set that has weights typical for both rifles and pistols. My set has weights of 5.04, 20.03, 50.06, 100.02 and 200.03 grains. They are an old set that I had checked at a local calibration shop, (traceable).

I usually just check with the weight (or combination of weights) that is closest to what I'm trying to measure.

U use the calibration weight that is closest to the weight u will be measuring, that's why some kits have more peices so u can more finely tune the exact cal value and also a larger total weight for larger values.

            What he said.

It is always nice to see correct measurements on a scale and repeatable results.
