    Reloading Recipes

    Hey guys,
Hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I am just getting into reloading, more specifically 9mm just for plinking and training at the range, and was wondering about recipies. What powders- bullet combos do you guys find works best? I have read alot about the Alliant Unique powder, and have heard positive things. Also, does anyone specifically load with Unique and FMJ's? any help is appreciated and opinions are always welcome!

My own hardcast bullets with whatever primer and powder I happen to have. You won't go wrong with Unique. It's a decent all around pistol powder.

You might want to post this to the reloading forum.

I too, just started reloading (actually about a year ago, now) and have received lots of great advice from the Calgunners on that forum.

FWIW, 9mm is a round that consensus seems to say is only worth doing on a progressive press. Especially if it's simply for plinking ammo.

Always consult the manuals, that being said, I started with Unique and now use Titegroup. When I made the switch my group got tighter...go figure! lol

All the "recipes" you will ever need are in reloading manuals.
Any "recipe" you get on-line must be checked with a manual and you STILL need to start at the starting load.
You can load 9x19 on ANY press for plinking--progressives are for hundreds of rounds per month at a minimum.
I have NEVER seen factory 9x19 ammo any where close to the cost of reloaded ammo (7-9 cents a bullet, 1-2 cents for powder, and 2 cents for primer at current prices)--13 cents vs. 25 cents for steel case junk.
I have NOT found Unique to be very accurate in 9x19, but it may be great in your gun. If small groups at 25-50 yds is not your goal, then you'll have lots of fun with Unique.

My favorite load is 124g Berry's Round Nose Bullet on 4.2g of winchester 231 or hp-38 (same powder) at a col of about 1.135. If you like softer then 4.0g but I prefer to have a little snap in 9mm reloads. Find it to help with getting back on target quicker

I used Unique with Xtreme bullets but found the Unique hard to meter in the Lee powder unit. I switched to the Lee pro auto disk, N320 powder and Black Bullets Inc at 147 gr for a great target round in my Sig 2022. That same load also works fine in both of my Keltecs, a P11 and PF9.

My all time favorite powder for 9mm is AA#5. Unfortunately it's made out of unobtanium. However, I have been using power pistol last couple of years and really love it. 5.8gr PP and a 115 or 124gr plated works great in my 1911's and sigs.

They're not liberals, they're leftists. Please don't use the former for the latter. Liberals are Locke, Jefferson, Burke, Hayek. Leftists are progressives, Prussian state-socialists, fascists. Liberals stand against the state and unequivocally support liberty. Leftists support state tyranny.

I am using 5.0gr of WSF with 115gr PRN from Xtreme. So far it is a good food for the Rami, Glockzor, Khar and Zig Zauer...

Oh yeah, Mixed brass, 1.140 COAL and SPP (S&B)

Do your checking though cause it might not work for you like it does me.

5.8gr AA#5 and 115gr OR 124gr extreme plated bullets work well.

My all-time favorite powder is Bullseye, but I'm currently using Power Pistol for 9mm because I got a lot of it when powder was tougher to find. I'm using 6.2 gr. of PP with 115 gr. bullets, and 6.0 gr. with 124 gr. bullets.

Dont worry too much about the powder for 9mm. It will run on a tremendous number of powders, including most pistol and shotgun powders. Get what you can find. Try a few 1lb bottles, then find what you like and buy it in bulk. Once you start working from an 8lb jug or 10lb case, you will be loading a ton of 9mm with it. I'd rather stick with one powder, one bullet, and just go with it once I have a suitable load. 9mm is a cartridge that is begging to be loaded on a progressive press in bulk.

If you are loading on a progressive, stick with spherical powder. If you are weighing each charge, then either spherical or flakes powders are fine.

Currently, I am using CFE Pistol, CCI small pistol, and range brass if I am to load 9mm. I found 5.5gr works with a 115gr JHP and 5.3gr is good with a 124-125gr JHP. I set the length to make sure it will work on the smallest chamber I have so that will fit any of my 9mms. I certainly do not want to have a different load for each 9mm gun, and that is good enough for me.

I'm using 5.5 gr Power Pistol too for my 9mm with 124 grainers.

Is it just me or is Power Pistol pretty dang snappy!
