How does Hornady FTX compare to XTP?
Tags: None -
FTX is a hunting bullet not a personal defense bullet, the xtp is a hollow point mostly intended for personal defense. -
Oh yeah, and the LEVEREVOLUTION blows them all out of the water because they look like little missles and they will DEVASTATE any coconuts in your way.
I know because one day after confiscating a fruit cart from an illegal vendor we went to the range with the coconuts and shot them all up with my .44 mag Colt Kodiak (with highly visible abs) and the leverevolutions that I had. Those things went EVERYWHERE.7 Billion people on the planet. They aint ALL gonna astronauts. Some will get hit by trains...
Need GOOD SS pins to clean your brass? Try the new and improved model...

And remember- 99.9% of the lawyers ruin it for the other .1%...Comment

I have never used the FTX as they did not have them when I was hunting game with a pistol.
The XTP in the 200gr HP XTP 44mag has worked well for me on deer and one very large Black Bear. They also work well on ground squirrels/skunks/PD's and one yoteA 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

In 460 S&W
I would not use the FTX on game animals- opens to fast out of 460 and ruins to much meat.
The XTP/MAG is an excellent as choice for deer and pig in both 240 and 300 grain versions.
The XTP should be avoided is not suitable for use at 460 velocities.
Be safe and good luck

I use the 185 xtp in my 460 rowland being pushed at 1500 fps. and they are holding up.. the 185 xtp is only rated at 1450 fps .Comment

The FTX is a hollow point with a polymer insert that helps with even expansion and prevents the hollow point from getting plugged which might not allow the bullet to expand. It most definitely is a self defense bullet. Hornady uses this bullet in their Critical Defence and Critical Duty ammo. The down side for reloaders is, they don't sell this bullet in very many handgun calibers.
The XTP is Hornady's self defense hollow point bullet. It is widely available to reloaders.Last edited by uechikid; 11-28-2015, 10:12 PM."Carpe Diem"Comment
