.223 Primers - Large or Small?

I'm new to .223 reloading, I've only reloaded pistol loads.

Are the primers for Remington .223 large rifle primers or small? They look small, but I want to verify before buying any. I'm loading 55 grain FMJ (and larger gain as well, later on).

    Thank You

Should be small. But always verify with the cases you are reloading with first.

You want these for a AR.

Bolt action you can use regular small rifle.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

ive never had an issue with cci 400 primers from an ar, even though some people reccommend against them.

I have had only one double tap in a few thousand rounds with the 400 primers. And I blame myself as it was early on when I was getting my progressive all tuned in.

Who knows when some ******* is going to decide that we should be loading up LRP instead of SRP and then we get a whole new headache to deal with...

              There ya go.

Of course you can always try a large rifle primer and if it fails to fit then you can use a hammer... hehe

Lapua does make a 308 case that takes a small rifle primer. This is to increase internal case capacity so palma shooters can pour in a lot of powder to push a 155gr projectile to 3000fps.

Let me guess. You don't own a reloading manual?

Sorry did not see that you have reloading experience. I use 400 srp and have not had a double.

                      A big "Thank You" to highpower790, mskochinski, baih777 & Jeff213.

I've been gathering information and ordering what I need to get started once all my dies/materials/manuals/loading charts arrive.

I've got most of what I need now and appreciate the input you four gave.

                      Take care!

Hey man. Don't take it personal. Many if not all of the guys that posted here in this thread know what they are talking about but some people are in the camp of learning through tough love and some are in the camp of not giving a ****, just helping out period...

They are both good camps. If everyone just spoonfed you or ANYONE the answers then you would not really learn. But by prodding you in the correct direction via comments or sarcasm, we are helping you to FISH for the answers yourself AND, since you were already given the answer, it did not hurt any. Once you know how to fish for the info yourself, well, I think we all know the rest of that story. So be thankful that they even had the care to post a response that prodded you into the correct direction. Me, I am just here for the girls and the bukkake parties...

This isn't my first dance, I've been reloading handgun loads for years and fully realize the requirements such as the obvious (like reloading manuals).
However, this is my first experience at reloading rifle loads and was literally in the middle of getting information, hardware and other necessities when I posted.

Looking forward to expanding my reloading experiences and I'm sure I'll have a few more questions down the road. No worries.

No worries, it's customary for the calguns tactical team to pick apart and split arse hairs with your post, you should know that!
