Registering ammo sales is like registering gasoline sales.

LEO: "Get me records of everyone who bought gasoline today!"

This needless, useless requirement also allows minimum wage counter jockeys to access your name, address, Date of birth and DL number. And possibly your Credit card info if you paid for your Ammo with a card.

A good foundation for ID theft in my opinion.

We should demand statistics that show how this law has helped solve crimes. If they can't produce anything significant, it proves this is just harrasment.

Its just going to go underground at some point. I have seen the trend develop on other forums where people just find work arounds. And the people are always smarter than the government.

You're correct, I believe. It's so sad that we have to resort to this.

Just more feel-good crap laws that make people that have never owned or shot a gun feel like they are in control of us who do.

Its a city ordinance only, for rifle and pistol ammo. Has nothing to do with the county. If I recall it started back in 2009 or 2010. So if your new to shooting you probably were not aware. It effectively bans internet ammo sales. It was in the local news back then.

ID was required to purchase any ammo within Sac city limits since the 70's (as mentioned above). Fingerprinting was added, as well as keeping handgun ammo behind the counters, back in '09 (Thanks again Schwarzenegger!).

Even though it's legal to ship ammo into the city, alot of internet vendors won't because of the ID restriction (just to be safe).

AB962 was deemed unconstitutional, how can Sac city get away with this?

Schwarzenegger had no control over a city ordinance.

AB 962 was unconstitutionally vague, not unconstitutional. The Sacramento city ordinance was written differently, and furthermore was not part of the AB 962 lawsuit.

That's right, I was thinking of AB962. Never mind Schwarzenegger, my mistake.

The law only applies to brick and mortar stores selling ammo in the City of Sacramento.

Ammo can be shipped to all of Sacramento County including the City of Sacramento.

SouperMan does a very good job of explaining it here:

Of course many mail order businesses will not sell to any Sacramento address to stay on the safe side.

Also the Sacramento City ordinance doesn't apply to shot shells containing "bird shot" but does apply to buckshot.

                            5.66.080 Exemptions.
                            A. The provisions of this chapter shall not apply if the firearms ammunition transferee is any person described in Section 12302 or 12322 of the Penal Code of the state of California; any off-duty peace officer who displays proper agency identification which identifies him or her as an active peace officer; any person who has been issued a permit to carry a concealed weapon under the authority of Section 12050 of the Penal Code of the state of California; or any security guard licensed under the authority of Section 12033 of the Penal Code of the state of California.

                            B. The provisions of this chapter shall not apply to shotgun ammunition containing projectiles (shot) of a diameter less than twenty-four hundredths of an inch.

Does this mean you shouldn't sell or give away your private ammo stash. On the off chance a box of your ammo winds up at a crime scene are they going to show up at your house and arrest or interrogate you.
