    PC bullets in glocks

Hoping to get a Glock 9mm before end of year, also looking to try powder coating bullets for 1911. Got me thinking, are PC bullets ok to shoot in factory Glock barrels? Anybody try it?
    Thanks for any info

though I have never tried it myself, everything that I have read says the yes you should be just fine but... that said from what I am also hearing is that a lot of people are switching to the Hi-tec coatings instead of powder coating

The Poly barrel has issues with leading and pressure spikes....

As powder coating does not coat the barrel, I don't see any issue...

To be safe you could always buy a $100 lone wolf barrel that is cut rifling and has a more supported chamber.. this way you can shoot lead as well
Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED

Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)

Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET

Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT

Yes, I was doing it last year on a Glock 20 & 29 (10mm) with the stock barrels. I had no issues; however, they were NOT loaded hot. 950 fps on my chrono if I remember correctly. Your results may be different depending on a myriad of factors. Also, I used the Harbor Freight red color; per the pioneers over at castboolits.gunloads.com, red was the magic color if using Harbor Freight powder. There was some problem or less than desirable results with the white, yellow, & black. I forget the reasons.

I would go snoop around http://castboolits.gunloads.com/ for more current information if you're looking to powdercoat boolits.

thanks guys for responses. I was thinking that it should be OK but wanted to get some feedback. most likely will get Glock 19, and use 147gr bullets so should not be too fast. But I will be new to 9mm and not entirely sure what exact ballistics are off top of my head.

Love my Glock 19, but there are better choices for lead bullet shooters...just sayin'.

JustEd, point taken on the Glock 19. I plan on adding it to my CCW, so will have a more important role to play, but if I can make and shoot cheap ammo out of it then that will just increase my practice time.

I think it depends on the hardness of the lead. If the lead is real soft, the coating will make no difference. If the lead is hard, it might be OK. I never tried coated bullets.

I last shot my 150 or 155gr DARDAS pills out of my G-21, plus some of the 200gr H&G 68 type and some of the 200gr SWC TL from Lee. I have not cleaned my guns since, if you want me to get a photo, I will go get a photo of the barrel.

I got nothing to hide. It is a glock, it should only have maybe powder residue in the barrel anyways...

I thought the whole point of powder coating or HiTek coating bullets was so that you didn't have to care so much about the lead hardness?

The ONLY hardness you need to worry about really is the .357 mag stuff as far as pistols go.

AND the only reason you might want to pay attention is due to gas cutting. You MIGHT want to consider running gas checks on .357 but some folks claim to use it for .44 too.

Try some and check for accuracy If you notice that your accuracy is the same, then no GC needed for you.

Most of the lead we shoot SHOULD be hardened enough to be able to be shot fine. Many reloaders/ casters tend to use range lead but for those that use various types and mix up batches know enough to not need to ask your question. They will simply harden their lead and then coat it.

As for PC, it is hard to keep focused on its purpose, but it is ONLY meant to replace bullet lube. If you shoot pure lead out of a .357 mag with a hot load and it exits your barrel at 1700 FPS then there COULD be an issue of it becoming an amoeba and totally killing your accuracy. I am also jumping WAY out to conclusions in saying that though. I never thought it that way until someone else brought it up. He seemed to know what he was talking about so I have been monitoring the situation. I now have GC and I will see for myself whether or not the lead is strong enough for .357, but so far it seems that it has been FINE for .44 mag.

I guess the theory is that the GC is there to keep the bullet base FLAT and let it fly down and out of the barrel with an equal force behind it. In theory you could possibly CUT a hole through the bullet with the hot gas and it will not go very far at all or at least be killed enough to be inaccurate. That is rather extreme and I would think that it would possibly just deform a bit instead of getting a hole punched through it.

                          But ymmv...

I can take my glock and blast 50+ rds downrange and film it plus the barrel afterwards. Seeing as how I need to try out some new ZIP powder I would not mind doing that. I can make it tomorrow after work or on my days off this week which are wednesday and thursday if it is requested.
