      I have 3-550's, 1 - 650, and a 1050.

I'd go with a 550. Not auto indexing, but its quick to change over, and cheap to change over. A 650 is nice, but auto indexing is not that much faster. You can go auto case feed on a 550 and go almost as fast as a 650 but still clean up a mess a lot easier.

The only time the primer system is an issue is when its filthy and starts to gum up a bit, thats about every 5000 rounds depending on what powder you use. Small ball powders like True Blue and H110 tend to gum up the works more than red dot, and stick powders, but ball powders vary less in the powder measure, so its a toss up.

Dillons work are robust, and their value never goes down. You can use the machine for ten years and sell it for what you paid for it.

I'd say get a 550 and do 300 rounds per hour day in day out and change over in less than 5 minutes. The most I ever got out of the 650 is 600 RPH, but rarely does it go so smoothly. I do thinnk I get about 450 RPH on average however, which is nothing to sneeze at...especially compared to a rock chucker!!!

Why so many stations? Am I missing out on something?

stage 1 size and deprime, stage 2 swage, stage 3 primer seat, stage 4 powder drop, stage 5 bullet drop from a feeder or powder check, stage 6 seating of bullet, stage 7 crimp.

doesn't seem like too many stages to me? haha, if a 650 had all those stations it'd be a 1050!
Competition is where you find out you're slow, can't see well, are not accurate, have poor gun handling, can't visualize, have equipment that doesn't work and either accept it OR DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT.

If I go Progressive, I WILL want Auto index because i WILL overclock it to see how many rounds I can make and I WILL run it with a Uniflow QC powder dropper with case activated linkage OR I will use my LNL powder dropper with linkage. I like room to spread out and expand if need be.

So just get the 650 if you'll never remove primer crimps or the 1050 if you see yourself doing a lot of military brass de crimping. I hate doing change overs which is why I bought so many machines...plus I got them pre obummer cheap except the 1050 and 650.

The lnl is also a good machine but resale on them sucks.
