def. the 650 and get the caliber conversion, or if you don't need to make more than 500 rounds per hour a 550 with a caliber conversion.Man I want a Dillon.
Looks to me the differences are price vs speed.
If you were reloading for "ONLY 2" calibers (9mm and .223) which would be better:
Buying both a Square deal B and a 550 = $340 + $396
or
Buying two 550's = $396 + $396
or
Buying one 550 and a 650 = $396 + $505
or
Buying a 650 then adding on the stuff to do both calibers = $505 + other expenses
Sorry to hijack, just got me thinking of the different options.
BTW according to the dillon BLUE PRESS the 550 does come with one caliber conversion for $395Reason has seldom failed us because it has seldom been tried

Yes the 550 and 650 do come with one caliber conversion, but the conversion is only a shell plate, pins and a powder funnel, not the actual reloading dies.
It would be nice to have the primer tube filler, but for $300, I'd get the case feeder instead. Depending on how much military brass you process, the Dillon swager is nice, but for my budget, I use the $20 RCBS swager with my single stage press

Dillon stuff is not cheap, but once you use it, the price is instantly justified.
If you stop to fill primer tubes, you are spending maybe 2-3 minutes per tube.
At a normal cadence on the 1050, that's about 35-50 rounds you could have loaded.
Seeing as you have to stop every 5 minutes to fill the primer system, you can see that the primer tube filler instantly gives you about 25% more loaded rounds per hour as it only takes 30 seconds to drop another 100 primers into the press and start another tray of primers on the primer tube filling machine.
And as for the primer pocket swager, I tried the RCBS and once you use the dillon, it's like comparing a Cadillac to a Hundai.Randall Rausch

I'm on a tight budget too.
It took me a LONG time to justify the stuff I have.
I tried about every method of removing primer crimps before I broke down and spent the money on the Dillon swager.
Funny enough, now that I have the 1050's, I rarely use the swager anymore (just 308/30-06) as my 9mm and 223 brass gets swaged on-press.Randall Rausch
