Odd 7.62x39 ammo?

I bought these about 20+ years ago and forgot them since I no longer have an SKS(it was a crap one). They are steel cased HPs, but they were sold as steel core also. They are HEAVILY magnetic. Made in russia. Anyone know anything more about these or can confirm they are steel core from the package? Odd that it says made to hunting standards, though they are at least steal jacketed.

I've got some x54R that I think has the same exact markings on the red box, and are "made to hunting specifications". Not helpful, I know...

Doesn't LCB stand for Lead Core Ball. Are you sure the magnet is sticking to the bullet instead of the case?

I remember using something like that to hunt feral hogs in Vandenberg AFB. They actually shot accurately out of my NHM90.

Jacket is for sure magnetic. I was told when I bought it in '93ish that it was steel core, but that could have been FUD. Just seems odd to use a steel jacket for hunting ammo.

The headstamps on the case will tell the story

They look like a commercial for export run made by one of the Russian military ammunition factories. Steelcase SteelJacket bullet hunting cartridges are not too uncommon

I thought it was funny to have a steel core bullet on a HUNTING round, but an AK Hunting round was really funny. Because you know, who hunts with aks? LoL.

I always thought the LCB stood for Lacquered Case Bullet... But I have not see them in a long time. They were around $1.59/box of 20 I think.

To be fair, I only bought those three cases because they were on sale.

That was the ONLY reason why I would have ever bought 3 cases of anything at once. I also remembered that I kept them in my room, and when I finally moved out, there was a dip in the hardwood floors where they had been sitting stacked up 2x2 for 12+ years.

I actually bought 5 cases of them, but my friend wanted a case so I sold it off to him and then his dad wanted to try them in his SKS so I sold one to him as well and kept the other three for myself.

They shot great out of my MAK-90. **** this state. **** them and their AWB. Asshats.

Early import Russian ammo, not odd, just hasn't been around in a while. I have my boxes on shelves, not shooting ammo to me anymore.

Did you also have to take yours apart and wipe it down with paint thinner to get all the grease/packing preservative out of it?

I got mine for $69. But it was certainly packed in grease.

No, mine wasn't packed in cosmoline. They had cleaned it in advance. It was still a POS though. Fun for blasting away with stripper clips though.
