700-X with 9mm 124gr Flat Nose load data?

Howdy folks! I recently came across some unopened Hogdon Hi-Skor 700-X and was told that I could load 9mm with it. I was wondering if anyone would be able to advise a particular a powder charge that works for them, specifically with 124gr Flat Nose (X-Treme) projectiles.

What I have so far is a lot of load data for 115gr in the range of 4gr and a COAL of 1.10. Hogdon specifically says start at 3.7gr to 4.2gr for a similar 124gr. What works for you?

I have some Alliant BE-86 and have had great luck reloading it but wanted to ration it, so 700-X it is.

I loaded 3.3/3.4 grains with 124g powdercoated lead bullets from a Lee mold to coal 1.12 with success. Hard to load flake powder that light but it can be done. Load data for 124g can be found in Lyman 4th edition (lead data) and the book of Lee for jacketed rounds. As always start low and work up slowly. Good luck.

You should have no issues finding load data for this.

I have 700-x and I LOVE it for .45 (because I have a 5 lb can that has lasted forever). but for 9mm I heard it is decent stuff too.

If you have the BoLy or the BoLee data should be in ONE of those books but if you do not find load data, then maybe look for the next weight higher, 125gr, 140gr, 147gr if you have to...

I have a Lyman 4th edition enroute and Lyman told me that they tried to include many lee dies in their books. SO, if you intend to continue buying Lee molds, you might want to consider picking up the Lyman cast book as well.

Also, I just won an auction that had a Lee 358-158-SWC 6 cavity mold PLUS handles for $32 (all brand new) so we will see how load data for THAT one turns out.

About 4.1gr in my 121-125gr 9mm does fine. 700X, though shotgun powder, burns pretty well in any of the common autoloading pistol cartridges. Since it is so fluffy, you can basically meter it by eye, and it's about right when the case is 2/3rds full. The reason 700X isn't popular in 9mm is that it doesn't work well on Dillon type progressive machines. It'll have more error in a charge bar type dispenser, but as it's so fluffy, then the Dillon machine indexes, it will generally spill some powder onto your shell plate. That's why you need to go a bit slower than you would with a Dillon machine. If you are using a single stage or other configuration where you are weighing charges, it's absolutely a good powder.
