    1911 reduced loads

My 45 1911 kills my hands, I have been reducing my loads and when I get it down to where it feels comfortable I get jams, so today I changed the recoil spring to 14 lbs now I'm looking for a loads, does anyone have any suggestions
    it would be much appreciated.

    Titewad Powder

    BULLET WEIGHT
    200 GR. CAST LSWC

I use a Bear Creek 200 gr. SWC bullet, 3.5 gr of Titewad powder, 1.230 OAL.
Tightwad is a powder the IPSC shooters used in the 90's and later. I used it in a Para Ordnance at 4.1 gr. when the power factor was 185. There is no need to use that much for plinking.
BTW: We use a 15 # variable rate spring. Good luck.

I just finished loading 150 rounds for tomorrow night. If you have any questions, PM me.

How heavy is your boolit? Most people reduce the load of the 1911 not by reducing powder but shooting a 200 or 185 grain boolit. I know a lot of people who have switched to 200's from the 230 for just that reason.

Call John Jardine in Hayward. He is a 1911 master gunsmith and close to you. His Uncle was John Browning's right hand man. He can diagnose your problem and fix any issues you have.

Find you some Trail Boss. 14# recoil spring with 4.1gr (I think) of TB behind a 200gr bullet is very soft shooting. That's what I use for my kids to shoot my 1911.

4gr of bullseye & a 200gr LSWC with a standard spring - very soft shooting.

I've been able to go as low as 4.2 gr 700x with a 230 gr bullet in my 1911. It's got enough oomph to reliably cycle the action and is an easy round to shoot. I haven't tried a lighter bullet to see how it would compare.

This if your gun will cycle it.

Edit to add, if you shoot them with the sun behind you, you can see them (the bullet ) flying down the range.

Get a 1911 chambered in 9mm, one of the easiest shooting pistols.

In my opinion, the best .45 ACP load in a 1911 is 4.5 grains of Bullseye behind a 230 grain FMJ. I seat to 1.265" and it functions flawlessly. Bullseye meters great and is extremely economic (over 1,500 charges per pound, not accounting for waste).

Recoil is mild, noticeably less than factory Winchester White Box.

That's where I was going. Buy a 9mm and sell me that punishing 1911.

3.9grs of Clays behind a 230gr LRN is a very soft shooting, and very clean load. My go to reduced .45 load for years was 5.1grs of 231 behind a 200gr LSWC.

Fast powder behind a heavy bullet is the key to soft shooting. Just be careful, as these can be twitchy combos. Stay to the long end of the oal spectrum.

Another alternative, add a compensator to the gun. Lots of choices that make recoil almost go away.

                              I shoot a 160gr with 700-x (5.5gr I believe) and it is a nice light load.

Out of a TRP it does not jam or anything.

Your problem might be that you are shooting 230gr.

Change that to lighter pills and you will be good to go.

Lighter bullet will jam with that.

I actually tested mine and I found that around 5.3gr of 700-x the 160gr pills would not always cycle fully and cause issues at times.

I was able to get by with 5.0gr of 700-x with the 200 and 230gr pills though I think. 4.2, wow, I never tried it that low. Imma do that now...
