Chargemaster or lock n load auto charge?

Still haven't comvinced myself that I need either one but it seems like a huge time saver. I know RCBS has that $50 rebate deal which makes the price difference about $50.

    Thoughts?

    Same question as op.
Also is it even worth having? I only feel i'd like to have it when load developing rifle rounds using a ss.

chargemaster is a digital scale. and has all the quirks that go with one. i used to use one to throw under weight and trickle up, but sold it .

I have the RCBS unit and did the McDonalds straw mod and changed the throw speeds, it helped a lot for time to throw a charge and reducing over/under throws. I get maybe one over/under throw every 20 or so loads.

For precision rounds, I use a chargemaster with the straw modification and modified speed setting. It is much faster than the way it comes out of the box.

In any case, I use a separate, more precise scale as a final step for precision rounds.

I typically cannot keep up with it, but am thinking of a 2nd chargemaster so I don't have to keep swapping powders out.

What kind of "quirks"? I used digital scales in the past with no issues.

What is this "McDonald straw" mod?

nm, googled it. First video the guy gives a shout out to calguns!

I have a Chargemaster as well. It loved fine ball powers like TAC that throw very easily, but with stick powers like Varget frequently get over charges, which slowed progress.

That said, as a turret-press reloader, having the Chargemaster (with the right powder) was like having a competent assistant at my side.

I have two. For me, it speeds things up when making a large batch of .308 or 30-06. By the time I seat one bullet the other pan is filled and ready to pour into a case.

I'd go with the Chargemaster if you want the known product. I saw that Lyman came out with some fancy touch screens that never went that far as who the heck wants a touch screen when reloading.

I have two chargemasters, but I mostly use the older rusty dusty one because they don't start throwing well until you have run a lot of powder through it and it is broken broken in. The more you use the chargemaster, the better it works.

It's a good tool, everyone has one and it's very convenient for big loads.

Look here for the McDonalds straw mod and other tips on using the RCBS Chargemaster. I use mine when loading precision rifle loads.

IMO the Charge master. For match grade rounds I throw with a charge master then verify on my 10-10. Should both not indicate the same I dump it back in the hopper and throw again. Probably the only OCD thing I do in my life.

The only OCD thing? C'mon...theres more...

How about weighing brass or bullets, or even weighing primers (I don't do that...yet). or checking every round for correct CBTO?

The point is, precision reloading, is purely 100% OCD.

I have found the opposite to be true using IMR4064 out of my Lyman 1200 DPS. I also have the RCBS 1500 (Scale only)

I like the 1500 in that there is only a 10 second warm up vs a half an hour for the Lyman.

Those of you having issues with your Lyman DPS. Leave your scale on for 24 hrs straight and uninterrupted. For some reason it appears to need that only once in it's life to throw perfect throws consistently. I was going to toss my scale out due to inconsistency but accidently left it on for an extended period a few years back. It now throws perfectly. I've read, heard of others doing the same.

I've got a Chargemaster that's been straw modded and reprogrammed. Out of the box, I was lukewarm on it. After tuning it up, I really like it. It will occasionally over-dispense a powder like Varget or 4831, but with finer powders, it runs 100%
