I would like to measure all my loads, just for curiosity. But the rifle loads are the most important to me.

I wonder if I could rig up a stand that would make the magnetospeed work with a pistol as well. Any reason that couldn't be done?

No. I believe you can, with revolvers and rifles and prolly the desert eagle, the magneto speed can prolly be attached, HOWEVER, I bet if you had any semi auto with a RAIL and put on a flashlight or flashlight like device and attached the magnetospeed to THAT, I bet you might be able to pull off some readings but I am not sure how accurate they would be.

Another way might be to make a stand with a rest or rig it somehow so that you put the muzzle right on where it SHOULD be and then shoot. It only rises right? You might not be able to do a battery of shots as fast as you can pull the trigger, but I bet you can get a slow accurate shot or two.

LoL. For sale in 2 weeks? I should go check my e-mail. I was reading that they would be ready this fall. I WILL be getting one. I am so sick of NOT having the means to check all of this ammo I am making.

I have a Pact and like it. It's relatively user friendly, accurate and reads shots at a greater percentage than others I have had.

Fyi, the Caldwell one has an android app too that works just fine on my S5. Aside from the random error messages from the actual unit, I have been happy with it.

LabRadar has been shipping in small quantities apparently. It is expensive -- ~$700 or so when you factor in case and everything.

There have been a few reviews posted over at snipershide. The reviews have been positive EXCEPT for issues with reading smaller fast bullets, e.g. 223. While the device seems to work well with larger calibers, reports have been that it has been inaccurate with .223.

In your choice of a chronograph, if you will be using it at a public range, make sure you get one with a remote display that you can have on your bench. If you don't and get an error, you will have to wait til the next cease fire to clear the error.

I have a Shooting Chrony unit and as long as I pay attention to the shadows, meaning both screens in the shadow or both in full shade, all is fine. If one screen is in the shade and the other is in the sun, all kinds of errors. One last tip, I hang a 5lb free weight on a tie down strap and hang it from the middle of my tripod. Keeps the wind from blowing it over.

That should be just a matter of them dialing that in then. My use would be primarily pistol rounds so I am good there.

I have a 35P. It worked great until the printer went out. I think I paid $70 to get it fixed. I have not tried it again since I got it fixed.

Seems to be more fundamental than just dialing it in as changing settings still seemed to have not fixed it. People are hoping that it can be resolved by a firmware update, but that remains to be seen.

Reviews I have seen have all focused upon rifle rounds, so pistol needs evaluating.

I just switched to the Caldwell unit. I liked the idea of having an easy record of my testing in the iPad. Having previously used an Alpha Master and a Pro Chrono digital, I think the Caldwell beats them both.

I did get several errors with mine until I simply removed the screens. Unit worked flawlessly thereafter. Everything we shot over it was 7mm or larger, so I can't speak to the possible .223 issue. For outdoor use the lights are not needed.

Buddy I was shooting with this day had the Magnetospeed and it is very slick, as long as you only shoot one gun through it. Changing it from one gun to another is seriously ridiculous.

The Caldwell is so inexpensive, I suggest you start there, and if you find you don't like it, sell it or keep it as a backup.

I use a competition electronics digital and I did not like that one day around sunset I was trying to chrony my 44 mag and it kept raising the velocity by about 20+ FPS per shot. I started around 1400 and ended up around 2100+ after about 15 minutes or so. This was all using the same charge of lil gun and something else in it...

for the most aprt though, on a nice bright day, it works, but some of those days when I can not make it out to BLM and I just wanna go chrono some stuff I would like to be able to go indoors and chrono. Currently it is hard to do that in my garage, so I have to settle for the Riverside Magnum Range. Not that it is bad, but it IS a 10 minute drive for me and if I had a magnetospeed or a labradar I would just toss those into my backpack along with my brass bag and head on out.

I'm pretty happy with my Magnetospeed V2. I can't chrono my pistol ammo, but I haven't found a need. It works fine on my revolvers with barrels longer than 4". Shorter than 4" requires you to tighten the strap around the ejector rod. That makes it impossible to fasten the chrono unless you want to fool around the muzzle of a loaded revolver. I don't.

My Magnetospeed V2 has adjustable settings to allow me to measure slow moving lead projectiles (including standard velocity rimfire ammo). This is helpful when trying to chrono cowboy action loads.

No waiting for range breaks, no screens to shoot, no lighting issues, just tough to use on semi-autos and shorter barreled revolvers.

This is the one I got, after having a bunch of trouble with a couple of friends' Shooting Chronys. I love it.

OK- I've ordered the Caldwell unit. It's on backorder from Midway. Hope it comes in soon. I have like 80 rounds of 270 I'd like to go try out.
If I don't like it, I guess I can always try and sell it and get a magnetospeed.

Florescent (tube type) lights play havoc with the light sensors because they flicker at a high frequency giving the sensors the impression that a bullet just flew by.

You need a single light source (not a string of LEDs). I have/use long incandescent aquarium (display case) bulbs for indoor shooting.

Iv'e had mine for about 5 years, works great. The case available for it is nice. It's embroidered and has straps for a tripod.
